Julia, I think Malissa Ann Chauncey, b abt 1841 IL, was a sister of our Francis Chancy, b 1822 IL. We are pretty sure Israel and Lydia are Francis' parents. What concerns me is that they had 6 children between 1814- 1825, then there was a 10 year gap and they had 4 more children between 1835-1841. Do you have any more on this family? We may find the cousin connection one of these days. We KNOW we are related to Israel's father Roswell through dna testing. We have a perfect match with a family in Florida.

Hello Margaret,

I was hunting through the message boards for the name Tilley and came across your post.

My gg grandfather was born in Uley in approx 1795 his name was Joseph Tilley. I have a marriage cert from 1851 stating that he was widowed when he married Margaret Hounsell Workman. In the 1841 census records his mother is living with him in Dursley, her name was Hannah.

Up until now I have not found out who his father was or if he had any siblings. There are quite a few Tilley's that were born in Uley and I am sure that he must have had siblings, also I cannot find his first wife or if he had children.

Do you have any information that you could share with me as I have hit a brick wall. How far back does your family bible go?

Would be great to hear back from you.

Kind regards,

Sue Sinclair (nee Tilley)

There is no Cathcart listed in the cemetary books here in Hardin County. If you knew someone else that could be buried beside them. If they do not have a marker with there names then they could possibly not be listed in the books.

Hello!
I have dabbled for years trying to locate information about my grandmother, Lacy Hardesty Birch. I have a few photos but she passed away fairly young and my mother was adopted by another family.

If you get this email and have any other information I would be so appreciative! I believe she was born around 1912 and passed away in 1940 or 41.

Thanks so much,
Bobbi Gelman
Westland, Michigan
gelmanbobbi@yahoo.com

My g-grandmother was Frances Maude Burkhart, the daughter of Charles L. Burkhart and Martha Hambrink. Martha was the daughter of Luke Hambrink and Frances S. Ledbetter. Charles' parents were Frederick/Franky and Elizabeth Burkhart. They moved to Hardin County from TN between 1850 and 1852-53 because Charles was born around that time in Illinois. The Burkhart has been transcribed Buckhart many, many times on records.

I have found family trees that have Charles and Martha marrying April 1873 which would be about right for Frances Maude was born 1874-75. When my g-grandparents married, she was living in Elizabethtown. They have the Hambrink/Ledbetter marriage as 12 April 1855. For these two, I was looking for some sort of record as confirmation of the dates.

Charles Burkhart had a sister Mary/Polly, Lucy and Elizabeth and a brother George who were on that 1860 census. I have nothing on them.

Thank you.

They have just republished a book that was released in 1987 about the families of the county. Families had things put in the book. You could phone the Hardin County Independent office and they could tell you about it. You can buy it thru them also.

The problem is that the courthouse in Hardin Co, IL burned twice & there are almost no records available before the early 20th century. Some land records have been "reconstucted" from Pope Co. records although when the location says Hardin Co., it actually was in Pope Co., because they were land purchases before Hardin Co. was formed.

Is anyone out there researching George Washington Holliman/Holloman? I don't know when he moved into Hardin County. The census indicates that he was born in TN in 1821. I believe that his birthplace was Wilson County, TN. I suspect this Holloman family was in Pope County by 1825. I have reason to believe that his father was William Holloman.

I would really be interested in a death date. Also, if there are any documents indicating names of parents, that would be great. As I mentioned, I believe that his father was William, based on the fact that George Washington was living next door to William Holliman in the 1845, Illinois state census.

Thanks for any help.

Robert Schneider

I don't know if I have the right Joiner/Joyner family, but I am interested in the Joyner name because I might be descended from the Joiner family by way of William Holloman. He might have married a Joiner, probably in TN.

I can tell you that William Holloman/Holliman moved to Pope County, Il from Wilson County, TN. The move took place between 1821 and 1825, If you check the 1820 Wilson County TN census you will find William on the same page as a number of Joiners. The Joiners and Hollomans soon after moved to Pope.

I have a number of references to the Joiners from Pope County records. Also, I have a few references to the Joiners in Wilson. If you'd like some of them, let me know. As I said, we might not be referencing the same Joiner line, but who knows.

Robert Schneider

Hope this will help you. Millard Eugene Mick was born in Hardin County, Illinois on Oct. 1, 1912 and died Nov. 4, 2006. The is a family tree on line but you have to contact them. Look under the community family tree for Millard Mick and it is the Il.Warren/CarmenFamilies.
Maybe that site can help you. I know that my Father was related to Millard somehow on the Mothers side. Millard was always called Red Mick in the county.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm excited to find a "cousin"! I have a lot of information but most of it is un-documented. My father did the research years ago.

I would be glad to send my ged-com.

I'm most interested in tracking back from James Louis and Isaac Nathaniels' father. The info I have on him is:

James Keeling
b. 1783 S. Carolina d. 1850-1860
m. Elizabeth Unknown
b. 1806 Kentucky d. 1860-1870

Father - Benjamin Keeling
m. Elizabeth Whitman

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this info. I hope to come to Hardin County someday to do my own research. I also would love to have info on Nathaniel. All I have now is names of his wife and chldren.

Please contact me anytime.
Larry Keeling
l_keeling@hotmail.com

At the same time Isaac Stacy or Stacey bought the land around Cave-In-Rock just up the river from them. I would love to know the details of that trial.
Thanks,
Peachy

James JOINER, m. Francis ROWLINS (ROLINS, RAWLINS?)

Seeking info on my great-grandfather James Joiner, born ca. 1864, and presumed great-grandmother, whom I believe has been variously identified as Francis Rolins (1880 US census in Monroe Precinct, Hardin Co.), Rowlins (on Hardin Co. marriage record of 16 Sep 1880 found via IGI) or Rawlings/Rawlins.

Francis' ages given during censuses don't match up well over the years, but in 1900 she gave her birth date as October 1860. I tend to think she was born earlier than that, though--more like 1857 or 1858.

My mother, Nellie Francis Joyner (b. 1930 on the Wooly farm outside Equality) knows that she was named after her maternal grandmother Nelly Healy Wiedemann and her paternal grandmother Francis, but never knew Francis' maiden name. I do find Francis, married to James, living "near Fairview Landing" and next door to my grandparents Marion James Joiner (b. 17 Sep 1888) and Charlotte/Sharlotta "Lottie" Wiedemann (b. 22 Apr 1891) in the 1910 census.

However, my mom knows nothing of her grandfather James' origins. I find a James Joiner, age 8, on the US Census records of Monroe Precinct in 1870, son of Marion and Minerva Joiner. To confuse matters, it seems that there were a number of Marion/James/James Marion/Marion James Joyner/Joiners down there over the years.

While my grandfather gave his name as "James Marion Joiner" on his WWI draft registration, he consistently identified himself as simply "Marion" or "Marion J." to census enumerators; "Joiner" prior to 1930, and "Joyner" in 1930 and thereafter.

I believe that Francis' father was Hamilton R. Rollins, b. 1832 in Ohio, but I've found nothing substantial regarding Francis' mother, whose name appears to be Martha, born Kentucky ca. 1837. Family lore has it that Francis' mother was either 1/4 or full Native American, and we'd like to verify or debunk that if possible.

My best guess is that Hamilton married Martha in Kentucky, where both Martha and Francis state they were born, because by 1860, he'd moved the family to Iron County, MO, before moving to Hardin County after 1870 and before 1880. The probate record of a William Rawlins in Saline County, 1875, includes a Hamilton Rawlins as an heir.

Thanks in advance for any info that you can share!

There is Hobbs in Hardin County at this time. Brenda Hobbs married Danny Cowsert. She had a sister Patty and a brother Byron. If you contacted the Hardin County Independent Office they would probably be able to give you info on whom you could contact. They are really good about that.

I have a bit of info on this line. I hope it helps, but it is far from complete.

Elisha Benjamin LIEVERS was the son of G. A. and Jane Hanes Lievers and was born in Union Co., KY. He married Martha Angeline COWSERT (daughter of John Burton Cowsert and Lydia Twitchell) on 17 Dec 1888. They had 5 children, that I know of: Lydia Agnes, Charles Franklin, William Edward "Eddie", Druie McKinley, and John Aden. Both Elisha and Martha are buried in Williams #1 - Cowsert #3.

Charles Franklin (18 Oct 1897-23 Dec 1970) married Cretta C. CRUSON (29 May 1905-22 Jul 1954) and had (at least) 2 daughters: Bonnie Faye and Lou Ann. Both Charles and Cretta are buried in Fluorine Cemetery in Rosiclare.

According to "Union Co-op Funeral Homes", William Edward "Eddie" (1894-1965) married Katie FOE (9 Mar 1897-23 Jun 1923) and Katie is buried in Williams #1 - Cowsert #3 Cemetery just west of Rosiclare. According to "Cemetery Compilations of Hardin County, IL", Anna Lievers (wife of W. E. Lievers 22 Aug 1893-7 Aug 1917) is buried next to William E in Williams - Cowsert. There is no listing in the cemetery book for Kate. Perhaps he had 2 wives that died young.

Druie (1899-1988) married a Rosa ? (1902-1971). They are also buried in Fluorine.

John Aden (1889-1961) first married Sula M. ? (4 Feb 1888-19 Nov 1910). He then married Ethel Glass. They had twin daughters that were born and died in 1933; Alma Sue and Betty Lou. There is a Ruth Lievers b & d 1926 next to them. All are buried in Williams #1 - Cowsert #3. There very well may be more children, this was taken from the cemetery book only.

I am not an expert by any means on this line, it is mostly things I picked up from general Hardin County family research, but I hope it gives some clues for you.

I know these are not the same person, but I found it interesting because my great grandmothers name was also Nora Elizabeth Black and she was also married to a Patton... James Christopher Columbus Patton. She was Born in Washington county, PA and he was born in Monroe, OH. My Nora's father was named Silas and her mother was Sarah. My Nora died in 1932. Nora & James had lived in KS and MO during the last 30+ years.
When I see names this similar, I pause to look, because you never know... family siblings and cousins often use similar names for their children or family names for their children so sometimes they can be related as a distant branch. Especially since my ggf had 17 siblings. 3 of his siblings were born in IL. I have not been able to hunt all of them down yet.
The majic words on your message were "Nora, Black, Patton, Silas and PA"
