Classification: Census
For those who have not already discovered the site, there are free census transcriptions for Indiana counties at www.us-census.org/states/indiana.

These transcriptions are very useful to researchers who do not have access to images. They can also be useful to researchers who do have access to images because in many cases, they are prepared by people do research in the areas they are transcribing, and they are able to provide a more accurate index of names.

Not every census year in every county is available. These transcriptions have been done by volunteers who work for free and provide their work at no charge, and the quantity of transcriptions available depends upon the number of volunteers willing to do the work.

If you do research in Indiana, be sure to check and see if there are transcriptions available for the areas you are researching. Also, please consider volunteering to do a transcription, even if it's only one township. You work can help hundreds, if not thousands, of your fellow researchers.
