{QUOTED TEXT from 'History of Hancock County, Indiana, From its Earliest Settlement by the "Pale Face," in 1818, down to 1882' by J.H. Binford 1882}

Curry's Chapel (Methodist Episcopal),
is located about five miles north-east of Greenfield. Methodist meetings in this neighborhood were first held about 1830; but not till 1834 was there a permanent organization, and meetings were held for a time at the private residences of Moses Vangilder, James Park, and others, till 1843, when a log meeting-house was erected near by where the present frame now stands. At that date, and until within the last few years, this charge belonged to the Greenfield circuit. In 1866, the old log was superseded by a neat frame, costing $1,300. It was dedicated by J. W. T. McMullen. The first pastor was Rev. Barwick. The first class-leader was William Martindale. The present pastor is Rev. H. Woolpert. A Sunday-school is sustained during the summer season. --pg 202

*This book also has a section about Isaiah A Curry if you are interested.

****Also, there is a section about Isaiah A Curry and Morgan Curry (Father of Isaiah A) in the book 'Biographical Memoirs of Hancock County, Indiana' by B.F. Bowen 1902****

SEND MESSAGE IF INTERESTED IN THE QUOTED TEXT OR I WILL HAPPILY SCAN INFO AND SEND
Tracey
I am not sure about answers for you but here's what I have. My daughter's father-in-law (Noel Richard "Rick" Chambers Ooley) was adopted by Robert and Vivian Ooley at birth. His birth certificate lists Donal Chambers and Ruth Ann Johnson as his biological parents. He was taken home from the hospital by the Ooleys. Apparently the Ooleys were unable to have children and Vivian was best friends with Ruth so Ruth agreed to let her adopt Rick. He does know that there was a biological sister (Patty) and brother (Billy), but that is all that he knows.

The difference is that Rick was told a few years ago that Ruth died. You say that your Ruth is still alive. I have found (I think) our Donal Chambers, but it looks like he died in 1988.

Rick's aunt (mother's sister) believes Rick's biological sister was in her wedding because they were all friends with Ruth.

Does any of this information sound familiar to you. Would you mind sharing the information on Ruth's first daughter - maybe we could try to get some information from her.

Thanks
Donna Maines
Brandon, Florida

Ramona Lynne Chambers (on birth certificate) was born 23 Jan 1948 in Lafayette, In (Home Hospital, I believe). On the birth certificate it lists Ruth and Donal Chambers as the parents. She was adopted -and named changed on another birth certificate to Ramona Lynne Snider- by Charles and Lillian Snider. I do not have the court papers; they are sealed.

My mom told me that she met Donal Chambers and he was once married to Ruth, but he was in CA when she got pregnant with my mom. He said he signed the birth certificate to help Ruth out. Ruth had a daughter by a previous marriage. Kept that child, gave my mom up, and subsequently had 3 other children. However, there was a rumor she had a son after my mom which she gave up for adoption as well. Ruth is still alive, but her first daughter refuses to let me talk to her or help me out in this even though she herself did not know who her biological father was for a time.

Unfotunately, my mother passed away 15 March 2009. It was quite a shock. This part of my family tree really saddens me and I hope someday to get the entire story. One entire branch lies bare.

I am trying to find the parents of Thomas Cooper who was born in Indiana in 1817/1818. I do not know the county. There are Thomas Coopers in the 1840 Census Index in Dearborn, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Park, Posey, Clay, and Cass but I have no way of knowing which one is him.

I do know he was married to Polly George in 1836 in Marion county IN. Sons William and George and daughter America were all born in IN before Thomas moved west to Iowa.

I have not been able to find anything about his parents or siblings and I'm hoping someone here can help me. Thanks.

There's a wonderful old postcard on eBay from Bethel Indiana showing some residences and other buildings. Two of these residences are Jacob Polley and H.V. Polley. It's item number 380209645110. If these are your Polley's, this would be nice to have in your collection. Presently it's at $5.95 with no bids.
JB

correction on your info; May, not Mary was the oldest daughter of George and Mary Beaver.Mary Ormandy Beaver was my grandmother.Dorothy was my mother.Walker and his dad were both killed in the coal mines in seperate incidents.there was also another child that died in childbirth as did Mary I believe. The Crows were cousins I remember. The Beavers have a reunion every other year somewhere around Beckley or Lookout WVA. I haven't had the opportunity to attend one, but plan to some time. Some of the family has done some geneology research, but it appears vague as to original heritige.here's my contact Jim Shelton/jshelton555@aol.com

A relative died in Wayne Co., IN in 1892. The Wayne Co Health Dept furnished me (for a fee) a certified Death Certificate from the County Records book. What I would really like to have- if such a record still exists- and is accessible by ordinary means, is a copy of the original death certificate that was prepared by the county officials at the time of death.

The county employee I spoke to did not know if these records still existed and if so where they were.

Nor did I find an answer in speaking with the IN Dept of Vital Records.

Does anyone know if such records still exist for this time period for Wayne Co., IN?
