Thank you so much! Do you have the pictures on your tree? I would love to see them. I have George Washington Brewer's parents as Peter and Melvina too, from a death record. However if I remember correctly, the birth date doesn't match. I just hate not knowing for sure. I would be interested in any information you can provide for any of my relatives.

thanks again,
Patricia

Hi,
Yes, we are definitely related. I recognize most of those names you mentioned. I have a picture of Mattie, and a couple of Elisha. I have George Washington Brewer's parents as Peter Brewer and Melvina Carter. I'm not sure where I got that info; I will double check. Bosley's parents were Elijah Allen and Rebecca Martin. Elijah's parents MAY have been William Allen and Mary Rolleson/Robinson. There is disagreement on this. Rebecca Martin's parents were Wilford and Debbie Martin, Debbie's maiden name unknown. George Washington Brewer was married twice; his first marriage was to Martha Buley. I have HER as your ancestor instead of Mary Alice. I have a Bible that belonged to Bosley's parents, so I have a few dates of birth if you are interested.
Good luck,
Peggy Ray

Hello. I am trying to piece together the parentage of Isaac Catlett. His second to the youngest child with Mary Walters was Alta A. Catlett who married a Hindman. Their daughter Amy married a Scarrow who had my grandfather. If that makes any sense. I keep finding that some people list Basil as his father and the Basil born in 1806 cannot be his brother but am having trouble connecting more. If you have any info that you can share I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

No, I know nothing about H.B. Bolton. I could not find where the land was sold. It seems to be a dead end. I could not find his name in the deed index in Hardin Co. but maybe the deed was sold in LaRue Co. as part of the farm was in LaRue Co. and part in Hardin Co. This may be a lead.

In the 1860 LaRue County Census, Isaac Brewer was family 775. He was 20 years old. His wife, Susan was 26. They had one child; R. E., 2 months (F). Living in the home were: R. A. Walters, 31; and H. S. Francis, age 20.

From the book, LINCOLNS BIRTH COUNTY IN THE CIVIL WAR, by Ed Benningfield:
ISAAC THOMAS BREWER was a son of Ann Brewer. Ann was the widow of Isaac Brewer Sr. (I was unable to confirm this. I have his father as Michael - Russell) Their children were: William, Peter B., Michael, Phebe, Mary Jane, and Isaac T. This is from an 1854 deed. Isaac enrolled in the Union Army on October 5, 1861 at Camp Sherman. He was a private in Company F, 15th Ky. Infantry and 23 years old. He was described as 5 ft. 10 inches tall, blue eyes, light hair and light complexion. He was wounded in battle near Huntsville, Alabama in 1862. He had to have one of his arms amputated as a result of his wounds. He was honorably discharged on July 4, 1862 and returned home to farm. (See family 775 in the 1860 census of LaRue County). He married Susannah Walters, daughter of Quilla Walters, on August 3, 1859 in LaRue County. He filed for a pension in August 1866.

Isaac Brewer was son of Michael (Isaac) Brewer, b. 1787 in Pennsylvania. His mother's name was Ann (?)

Isaac's grandparents were Peter and Margaret Hoback Brewer from Virginia.
Let me know if you need more.

The marriage record states that he was born in Larue County. If that is so he should connect to one of the BREWER families in Larue County in 1850, but his name was not listed in the 1850 Census, so I need help.
Thank you for your prompt reply and the information about Magnolia. From that information, I would assume that the church was rebuilt on the same site and that the cemetery is also the same cemetery that Providence Church used. I am looking for Evaline Bright Eads, the wife of John Eads whose obituary was in the LCHN August 23, 1894: Mrs. John Eads, an aged lady from Magnolia, died on the 17th. Burial on the 18th in Providence.
She doesn't appear in the MCPC list in Ed Benningfield's 2-volume LaRue County Cemeteries. I am more interested in finding her son James R. Eads and his Mary Bet Noe. I thought if I could find Evaline that the son might be in the same cemetery. Mary Bet died Nov 21, 1932, near Aetna Furnace. I don't know when James died, but he did not appear on the US census after 1900.

Magnolia began as a stage coach stop along the Louisville-Nashville Turnpike about 1850. The first house in the vicinity was built prior to 1840. A post office was established in April, 1851, Postmaster David Harris named the post office in honor of his wife. After the Civil War, the post office was moved to its present site in a community then known as Centerpoint, but which soon took the name of the post office, Magnolia.

The Old Providence Church, later Magnolia Cumberland Presbyterian Church, was built within a few years of its founding in the 1840s. Several stores were established and the town began to grow. In the mid-1870s Magnolia had a population of thirty. Like Hodgenville and Buffalo, community concern for education resulted in the establishment of Magnolia College in 1879-80. Citizens of the town raised money to help build a brick building which was first designated the Classical and Normal College. (The church is still there, surrounded by a large, well-kept cemetery)

By the 1890's, several stores served the town and a Baptist church had joined the Presbyterian Church in serving the spiritual needs of the community. Magnolia College burned in 1893 and, for a time, only an elementary school served the children of the town. A flour mill built in the middle of town brought new prosperity to Magnolia in the early 1900s and several new stores were opened. In 1919, the Bank of Magnolia was organized. It is still in business today, and also has a branch in Hodgenville.

The citizens of Magnolia have always made education a priority. This was forcefully demonstrated in 1920 when a new high school was built, financed entirely by public subscription. It was supported for years by local citizens until it was taken over by the LaRue County Board of Education. Pride in the high school, now long closed, is seen in the fact that the local grade school has kept the name of the old high school mascot, "The Magnolia Majors". Today, in addition to the elementary school, the bank, post office, several churches, a medical office, several small grocery stores and a number of small businesses serve Magnolia.
Thanks so much. Is this Addie?? If so I have corresponded with you and even met you once a long time ago. I just don't know what happened to William and Lettie Tucker Steele after the 1860 Larue census. I thought maybe might find something with I could find their children's descendants.

I did find William's father, grandfather and great grandfather. My husband is related to William's son Joseph and I have info on him but still do not know what happened to William and Lettie or who their children married. You can email me directly at steelemagnolia@gmail.com

Thanks again.
Brenda

Robert S. Kane married Margaret C. Smith in Larue County in 1866. I am trying to trace Robert Kane ancestors. The marriage license states he was born in York,PA, his mother was born in PA and his father was born, I think, in Maryland. This marriage was his second. He was 36 at the time of marriage making his birth year 1829 or 1830. Any information would be appreciated. Margaret Was daughter of George W. Smith and Hannah Wallace of Larue Co.

Hi - I'm Janet Kay Huss Beiner - I am doing ancestry search for Kansas Huss family and have Wyant Penibacker (middle name is oral history - can't find spelling anywhere) Huss as a great-great grandfather. He was born in 1821 in Larue County KY. He married Susan Ann Jones on 6/7/1842 in Hamiltons, Larue County. Wyant (most misspellings in census records - one 1875 Census even has William) and Susan went to Doniphan County, Wolf River Township, KS in 1856. Wyant died in 1888 and Susan died 6/21/1913 and both of them are buried in Moray Cemetery, Moray, KS. I have photocopy of photo of headstone. They had six kids - Fielding (1843 KY), Henrietta (1854 KY), Mary (1849 KY), William (1846, KY), James Henry (my great-grandfather - 7/11/1858 KS), and Francis Elizabeth (1859 KS). Fielding married Emily Dooley (born IL) in 1867 in Doniphan County, KS, and I have found one son, Harry, born 10/1894. James Henry (my ancestor) married Isabell Walters in 1881 and I have a copy of their marriage certificate. I believe Francis Elizabeth married Orrin Sharpe but I haven't gotten to that family group yet. I have the family groups that are direct ancestors for me if you are interested.

Let me know if any of this is helpful or if you have found more since you last posted.

have found the same thing; nellie huber apparently asked all the family branches to submit info; my grandmother whitewashed our entries; not a divorce or early baby in the lot; still it was more than i had on family! seems several branches of family ended up in central illinois; less than 25 miles from me!

My grandfather, Virgil Baird, and his family are pictured on page 155. Good to meet you!

My family has found a few minor errors in the "Legacy" book. None too serious, but enough to make us question and double check everything we read in it.
