Mary Doane

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Doane, wife of J. C. Doane, died at her home on Dixie Highway last Thursday night. She was born in Pendleton County, but moved to Grant County with her husband many years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Doane were married 55 years ago. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Julia Barnes of Covington; two sons, Clarence of Knoxville and Leslie E. of Owenton; 7 grandchildren, and one brother, Moses L. Porter of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Burial in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, Ky. [dated Friday, August 2, 1940]

I have just started my own detailed Family tree (Grant), however I came across information about the Grants in Norway, this was in an old document entitled "The Crondale Text". I will look it out for you but am unsure if its any help. It goes back to the Grants origin as vikings and then coming to Scotland and then here to Ireland, but some of the family went back to live in what's now known as Oslo.
Let me know if this is relevant its very general.

I am looking for any Grant that came from SWEDEN. My Great Grandfather, Jacob Grant came to the US in 1881 and settled in Phila. Pa.. I am hitting a brick wall and would love to find my family. He married Catherine (Weller?). She was born in Germany.

Raymond L. Vincent, 77, of Williamstown, died Nov. 24, 1976 at Regency Manor Nursing, Independence. He was a practicing attorney and one of ten brothers, seven of whom were lawyers. He was elected two terms, 1928-1936, as county attorney for Grant County, and was Commonwealth Attorney from 1939 to 1951. He was a native of Edmonson County; member of Williamstown Baptist Church, member of Grant County American Bar Association anf 50-year member of Grant Lodge No. 85 F & A. M. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Golda Richey Vincent; two sons, Raymond R. and Duane Lee Vincent, Florence; one daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Youngman of Indialantic, Fla.; six grandchildren and one grandchild; five brothers, B. M. and C. L. Vincent, Brownsville, P. H. Vincent, Ashland, H. H. Vincent, Cattlesburg, and Howell Vincent of Covington. Burial in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, Ky.

Chauncey D. Shinkle, 87, died at the Old Mason's Home in Shelbyville, Saturday, December 6, 1975. He was a native of Grant County, but lived in Idlewild, Ohio, for 45 years. He had moved back to Grant County four years ago and entered the Mason's Home ten months ago. He was a veteran of WW I, and a member of Elizabeth Christian Church. Survivors are a son, C. D. Shinkle Jr. of Idlewild; 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

She was a sister to Robert Byers who lived in Williamstown about 25 years ago who was engaged in the tailoring trade, and of Wm. Byers now of Kim, Colorado. She was the widow of the late A. J. Johns, formerly of Crittenden, who died in Williamstown several years ago. Burial in Crittenden Cemetery. [dated Friday, January 2, 1925]

She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Owen and Grant County School systems for 42 years, and had been an active Sunday School teacher in the Sherman Church of Christ. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in 1954. Survivors are three brothers, W. T. Haines, Avon Park, Florida, Chester Haines, Jonesville and Edgar Haines of Worthville. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Jonesville.
