I have been looking for Ernest Dixon and George DIxons parents for awhile. They were raised by my Great grandmother and grandfather James and Elizabeth DIxon. My mother was the daughter of Emmaline (Emma) Dixon Cyrus of Van Lear Kentucky. Dtr of James and Elizabeth. I have heard my mom (Ethel May, dtr. of Emma) talk about her Aunt Mary ALice. You have opened up some doors for me. Thank you. Peggie Waddell

Who did Rebecca marry second?

Eunoka’s husband, Leonard Fannin, Jr., was son of Leonard and Maudie (Smith) Fannin. Leonard, Senior, was son of John A. and Mary Alice (Honeycutt) Fannin. John A. Fannin was son of Silas and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin. I have never found any record or anyone who knows who the father of Silas was. According to census information, Silas was born about 1822 in Lawrence County, Kentucky. He settled in Butler District, Wayne County, WV, about 1844 where he raised his family. He was still living in Wayne County in 1887. I have never found a record of his time or place of death. John A. Fannin was a brother to my great-grandmother, Rebecca.

Who can tell me about Rebecca Fannin, born in Wayne County, (W) Virginia in 1850, daughter of Silas and Mary (“Polly”) (Ferguson) Fannin? I would very much like to hear from a descendant of her second marriage. She was my great-grandmother (my mother’s grandmother) who married 1st my great-grandfather, Reece Workman, and second unknown. Our family lost all track of her when she “remarried and moved away.”

Reece Workman married Rebecca Fannin (Fannon) in 1868 – her first marriage. Reece and Rebecca had my grandfather in 1870, and a daughter. Reece blamed Rebecca for the death of the little girl, then took my grandfather and left her. I found an 1877 divorce decree on record by Rebecca. When my grandfather tried to find a trace of his mother in the 1920’s, he was told that she remarried and moved away, but they didn’t remember who she married or where they moved.

If Rebecca had any descendants of her second marriage, I’d like to know and maybe hear from one of them.
I found the obituary for Jessie's Daughter Ethel. It seems her mom might have remarried a Wallace.

Ethel Mae Porter, 87, of Williamson, WV died Saturday, June 24, 2006 in Williamson Memorial Hospital. She was born March 25, 1919 in Magoffin County, KY the daughter of the late Henry Beecher Bayes and Jessie Wallace. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Porter. She was a former waitress for City Resturant and Lock, Stock, and Barrell in Williamson. She is survived by her son, Dennis Stiltner of Fyffe, AL, one granddaughter and six great grandchildren. Arrangements are being made by Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, KY. There will be no visitation.

I am looking for information on my grandfather's first wife.

Here's what I know so far:

Henry Ward Beecher Bayes married Jessie Jane Sizemore 13 Jan 1916 in Johnson County, KY.

Beecher & Jessie had a daughter Ethel May Bayes 25 Mar 1919 in Johnson County.

By Jan of 1920 Jesse and Ethel are listed in two census' of two Callins families in Letcher county.

Once in the house of Link Callins in Baker, Letcher County, KY and Jessie listed as a servant with her name misspelled as Baize. Census is dated 2 Jan 1920.

And again in the house of John A Callins in Lower Rockhouse, Letcher County, KY. Jessie is again listed as a servant. Census is dated 28 Jan 1920.

I want to know if Jessie remarried, who her parents were, and when she passed. I cannot find any record of when or if they divorced but 1900 census shows Elizabeth in Magoffin County married to Peter Hunley. Henry C has been extremely hard to track as there are several Henry Cantrell's born around that same time. I would appreciate any help with my Henry Cantrell.

But I didn't buy it.

However, next to the Sipp Theater there were some old black and white photos in the window of an office, it was a lawyer's office or something, and I did take a picture of a picture thru glass. So I have attached it here for what it is worth.

It is in Oil Springs, Ky outside of Paintsville. I was there in September but it was too overgrown for me to get up to the top of the hill. The owners of the land (who live at the base of the hill - still surname Rice) said they'd hoped to get it cleared so people could have access to the gravesites.

I have one picture of my relatives at my grandfather's grave, but unfortunately they couldn't afford to get him a marker. But I am hoping that the marker for my great grandfather will be there.

When the weather is better, and hopefully with some time allowance for the Rice family to do the clearing do you think you could make it to Oil Springs?

Children of Sanford Collins (1844-1928) and Elizabeth George (1854-1940)

I need help in regards to Cynthia Collins and Cynthia A Collins.

I show that Sanford Collins and Elizabeth George had a daughter Cynthia A Collins according to the 1900 census and it says that she was 8 years old and born Jun 1891. She doesn't appear on later census of Sanford. But she may have been married by 1910 because she'd have been 18.

But then.....

I also found a birth record for Sanford Collins and Elizabeth George that says Cynthia Collins was born in 11 June 1902. (which means Elizabeth would've been around 47 at Cynthia's birth)

There is a death record of Cynthia Collins in 10 Jan 1903 with parents Sanford & Elizabeth Collins saying that Cynthia was approximately 2 years old. (By the math she'd only have been 7 months from June 1902 to Jan 1903.)

So, I need some clarity......

Were there 2 Cynthias? Did the family re-use the name?

Are the names Sanford and Elizabeth common enough that the death record for Cynthia Collins dying in 1903 does not belong to the Cynthia Collins born in 1902. Or did the record keepers make many errors on the dates/approximate ages?

I am looking for information on my grandmother. She was the daughter of John(ny) Meade & Mary Taylor Meade and married my grandfather, Warren Maitland Gullett, Sr (son of Sherman Gullett & Irene Bush Gullett) in 1922. They had my father, Warren Maitland Gullett, Jr. in 1924 & a daughter, Geraldine Gullett, in 1926. At that point I only have the rumor that she was admitted to a mental hospital & checked out by her sister, Ethel. At that point I've hit a brick wall.
Any info or leads would be greatly appreciated!
Peggy Gullett Wells

Dan Marshall was my grandfather, John Marshall's brother. He and his family moved to the St Louis Mo area in the late 40's or early 50's. I have been trying to find information about their mother, Lurania. She lived with my grandparents when she died in 1947. Her mother was Bettie Bradley and her father was John Brown (according to her death cert. If you have any information on her I would appreciate hearing from you. I have some information on their father Thomas J Marshall, but not much. My name is Deanne (Marshall) King and I am 68 years old.

The original researchers of the American Civil War veterans buried in Australia, including Mr. Barry Crompton of Melbourne (not New South Wales, as one incompetent "researcher" has stated), Mr. Bob Simpson, of Beechworth, Victoria, Mr. Len Traynor of Sydney, as well as the late Roy Parker of Sydney, had known about the details of Patrick O'Leary for years, long before Gray appeared on Australian soil, and we were already aware that O'Leary could not have served in the Georgia regiment mentioned, for several reasons, which are shown in documents and elsewhere. Competent research has already been conducted, and we have already come to some conclusions, which were known to us for years. To make assumptions without consulting the proper documentation and seeking concrete evidence is not the sign of a true researcher.
As with just about all the names mentioned in these postings, we are fully aware of most of the facts and much data is not shown online or elsewhere, to protect the integrity of our original work.

Forgive me as this request for help is vague, as
I have very little to go on! At any rate, I am
seeking help in finding information on Warner Lewis,
who would have resided in Johnson County in the
early 1940s, and possibly beyond.

He worked as a bus driver for the Consolidation
Coal Company camp in Van Lear, and would have been
working there in late 1942.

From the information that I have gathered, he would
have likely been born in the early-mid 1910s.

If anyone might have suggestions on how I would go
about finding more information on Warner Lewis, I
would be appreciative. Thanks!

I just found the death certificate for Mary Robbins VanBevers (Vanbebbers) who was the wife of James B. VanBevers. Mary died in Bell County, Kentucky on February 18, 1922; she was the daughter of Mike Robins (Robbins) and Billie Robbins (never knew her by this first name). The death certificate states that the undertaker was Gibson Bros. in Middlesboro, Bell Co., Kentucky but that she was buried in Johnson County, Kentucky on February 19, 1922. Does anyone know which cemetery she is buried in or if her husband is also buried in the same cemetery? I have never found where they were buried and was excited to find this much, but it is of little value right now until I can find the exact cemetery. Hoping that someone knows of the family or relatives there. Thanks.

Debbie

Hi Shane,
I believe Missouri Hannah is the d/o Enoch & Miranda Arms.
Enoch's father Ebenezer S. and my g/grandfather George W. Hannah were brothers. I do not have any info on Missuri exept maybe her husband Kenneth Rice and a few of their children. I do have some photos from Enoch & Mirandas family. Maybe we can share info.
My email is birdie6@ctcn.net
Roberta Hannah Monteith

Does anyone have a record of the John Stafford cemetery on the old Bob Whitiker farm in Whitehouse, Ky. Someone said their used to be a lot of markers but when I visited there this past summer all I could see was John and Mary his wife's marker's. If anuone has a more complete record or a Bible record pertaining to this cemetery. PLEASE CONTACT ME. dnnjamison@bellsouth.net

Ronald I went to Google and typed in "Thealka Kentucky Cemeteries" Thealka did not come, but there was a look up site. Do you know the county? If so you can type in "county Kentucky cemeteries and you might come up with something.
Betty Parks
