      <description>W E Trice Funeral Held&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral services for W E Trice, 85, who died at 10 am Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs Jack Wilson, Nebo, were conducted at 2 pm today at Antioch church near Hanson. Elder J D Shain officiated. Pleasant, Dec. 2.-- Miss Mary Trice, age 19 years, daughter of Mr and Mrs Tom Trice, died November 25. She united with the Methodist Church at this place about three weeks before her death. Mary was a good girl and liked by all who knew her. She was perfectly willing to die if it was the Lord's will.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Sunday School has lost a faithful member and her teacher a bright pupil, but our loss is her gain. She leaves a father, mother, two sisters and one brother and a host of friends to mourn her loss.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral and interment took place here Friday.&lt;br&gt;---&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mt.       <description>&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;D F Siria, 67 Ex-Jailer, Dies&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;David Franklin Siria, 67, who retired as county jailer last January after serving four years, died at his home on Madisonville rfd 2 at 11:30 o'clock this morning after several years illness which began when he suffered a paralytic stroke while county jailer. He had been critically ill for several days and death was not unexpected.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr Siria had long been a democratic leader in Hopkins county, and was an unsuccessful candidate for the democratic nomination for jailer in the August, 1929, primary, being defeated by Herb Ligon. He had been a member the Antioch Primitive Baptish church for years.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving Mr Siria are his widow, eight sons and four daughters. The sons are Erwin, George, Charles and Arthur Siria, Pleasant Grove section; E K, Cecil and Ruby Siria, Madisonville, and Joseph Siria, Dawson Springs. The daughters are Mrs Frank Vazey, Mrs Y W Buchanan, both of Bisbee, Arizona; Mrs Dottie Clayton, Manitou country, and Mrs Otho Tippett, Madisonville. One daughter, Mrs Mamie Beeny, first wife of Deputy Sheriff Elmer Beeny, died several years ago. She was 80.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Clayton was the widow of Bud Clayton, who died five years ago. They were married October 19, 1898.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Clyde Owens, White's Creek, Tenn., and Mrs Evelny Branson, Sarasota, Fla.; three sons, Tommy Clayton, Indianapolis; Harvey Clayton, Madisonville; and Baxter Clayton, Amarillo, Texas; a sister, Mrs John Higdon, Madisonville route 2; and two brothers, Baxter Dame, Panama City, Fla., and Potter Dame, Granite City, Ill.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am Saturday in Antioch church, west of Hanson, with Elder J D Shain, Madisonville, officiating.       <description>&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Stewart Sheffer, City Employe For 18 Years Dies&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Stewart M Sheffer, 365 Race street, died in his sleep in Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Louisville at 5:30 am today.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr Sheffer, 68, suffered from a heart condition for a number of years, but death came unexpectedly. He had been admitted to the Louisville hospital Monday afternoon for treatment.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr Sheffer had been in the employ of the City of Madisonville for almost eighteen years, having been an employee of the street department. He was a member of First Baptist Church.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Born in Henderson county, he was the son of the late Charles and Emma Book Sheffer. The Sheffers came to Madisonville to make their home in 1934.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving are the wife, Mrs Agnes Busby Sheffer, and a daughter, Mrs James Rash Claytor, South Franklin street.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Friday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in South Main street, with the Rev. Rupert Utley officiating. Interment will be in Grapevine Cemetery.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The body will be brought here tonight.       <description>&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Brain Surgery Fatal--&lt;br&gt;Tuell D Ashby Dies At 49&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Tuell D Ashby, 124 South Kentucky avenue, for 27 years associated with the Madisonville post office, died in St Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., at 3:45 am today as result of brain surgery he underwent last week. He was 49.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr Ashby was admitted to the Nashville hospital on November 7 and underwent surgery for removal of a brain tumor on the following day. His condition had become critical yesterday.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;An overseas veteran of World War II, seeing extensive service in the European theater of operations, he was born September 15, 1913. He was appointed a temporary mail carrier with the post office here in October of 1935 and in July of 1937 became a regular carrier. He had been with the post office since that time except for time out for military service from May of 1943 until March of 1946.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;He was a member of Madisonville First Methodist Church; of the Elks Lodge; Bailey Pride, Jr. Post 5480, Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Hopkins County Post 6, American Legion.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Arrangements Incomplete&lt;br&gt;Surviving are the wife, a daughter, Marcia Jean, a freshman at Madisonville High School; mother Mrs Fred Ashby, 19 South Kentucky avenue; and an aunt, Mrs Goldie Haywood of 336 East Center street.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral arrangements had not been completed at noon today.       <description>&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Mourning Barnett Dies&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Mourning Hall Barnett, 64, a member of a prominent Hopkins County family, died suddenly in her apartment at 148 East Bradway shortly after 9 o'clock this morning from a heart attack.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Barnett, the widow of Thomas H Barnett, well-known funeral director here during his lifetime, had suffered from a heart condition for a number of years and had had several severe attacks. Today's seizure was sudden and death came almost instantly.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Born in Hopkins County in 1897, she was the daughter of the late William Jabus Hall, and of Mrs Cordelia Ann Trathen Hall, whose home is in Harrig street here.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Barnett, who was a member of Madisonville First Christian church, had been associated with W Fred Strother in the operation of Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in South Main street for a number of years, until ill health recently forced her retirement from active participation in the business.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Chester Crumbaker, Danville, Ky., and Mrs Roy Schmetzer, Lake street, Madisonville; six grandchildren; the mother, Mrs Hall; a sister, Mrs Gail Hall Brown of Ormond Beach, Fla., a stepson, William L Barnett, Madisonville; an aunt, Mrs Fannie Wilkins, Grapevine Road; an uncle, Fred Trathen, Arch street Madisonville; and a number of nieces and nephews.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Death resulted from a liver ailment and came after three days of serious illness.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Arnold was the last of eleven children born to Matthew and Mary Yarbrough Daniel, who came to Hopkins county from North Carolina. She had been a member of the Tirza Primitive Baptist church since she was fourteen years old.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Surviving are two sons, Herman Arnold, Lexington; Johnny Arnold, Hanson rfd 2, and five daughters, Mrs Irma Siria, Madisonville rfd 2; Mrs George Siria, Hanson street, Madisonville; Mrs G A Carneal, 329 South Madison avenue; Mrs Ben Rhew, 312 Murray street, and Mrs Noel. Her husband, T L Arnold, died in 1919.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The body was taken this afternoon from the S T Harris Funeral Home, 224 North Main, to the home of Mrs Noel to await the funeral. Clayton Dies Suddenly&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Marion Thomas Clayton, 51, former magistrate and member of the county board of education, was found dead in his bed Saturday morning when his family called him for breakfast. Death was attributed to a heart attack.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;M T Clayton was born October 3, 1878, in West Hanson, where he spent his life. He engaged in farming all of his mature years and made a pronounced success as an agriculturist. He was always interested in politics and was active for the democratic party in all campaigns.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;On December 9, 1900, he married Miss Birdie Veazey, of West Hanson, and to them ten children were born, five boys and five girls. All survive except one daughter, who died in infancy. The survivors are: Thurman and Jasper Clayton, of Madisonville; Fred and Rufus Clayton, of Hanson; the daughters, Misses Bonnie, Cleone, Geneva, Gladys and Agnes, who made their home with their father.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Five brothers and five sisters survive. They are: Mrs John Clayton, Paris, Tenn.; Mrs I A Clayton, North Carolina; Mrs Brack Gammons, Madisonville; Mrs Homer Adams and Miss Nora Clayton, West Hanson; J T, G W, G L and J L Clayton of West Hanson, and Scott Clayton, of Richland.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;In his early life Esq. Clayton taught school.       <description>&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Former Slaughters Woman Dies In Va.&lt;br&gt;Mrs Henry Smith, (Nee Miss Hallie Cosby) Passed Away At Christianburg, Va.&lt;br&gt;Special to the Banner&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Slaughters, June 19.-- The citizens of our little city were greatly shocked and greived, when a telegram was received Sunday, June 15, announcing the death of Mrs Henry Smith of Christianburg, Va.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mrs Smith had been ill for ten weeks, but had begun to show improvement following an operation for gall stones and appendicitis. She suddenly grew worse Saturday afternoon and sank rapidly.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;She was about 26 or 27 years of age, and was the youngest daughter of Mrs Mary Ida Cosby, and the late Dr. W C Cosby who also died on June 15th nine years ago. Mrs Smith was married less than two years ago to Mr Henry A Smith of Christianburg, Va. She is survived by her mother Mrs W C Cosby; her husband Henry A Smith of Christianburg, Va., and three sisters: Mrs A M Charlton, of Christianburg, Va., Mrs J H Whitson and Mrs E L Kerney of this place.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Funeral services were conducted at the Cosby residence Wednesday afternoon, by Rev. M J Dick, with interment in the Slaughters cemetery.
