Hi. I am a descendant of Joel Maxson of Attica, NY. He was born in 1763 in Westerly, Rhode Island. He died in 1833 in Attica, N.Y. Joel and Lucretia are both buried in the Maxson/Lindsay cemetary in Attica. I have been researching the Maxson lineage for several years. Last year my sister and I traveled to Attica and met several of our Maxson cousins. Joel and Lucretia, based on my research, had three sons: Joel Junior, John, and Jesse L. Maxson. The best source of Maxson lineage is Walter Le Roy Brown's book, "Maxson Family Records." F.W. Beer's book, "The History of Wyoming County", is also good. The local history by Ripstein, "A Town of Country Folk" is very good as well. Land sales verify Joel sold land to Joel Jr., John, and Jesse L. Maxson. Joel's brothers - Elias and Daniel - also lived in Attica. There are still quite a few Maxson descendants in Attica. Let me know if there's anything that I can help you with.

- Laurel

I located Norma D. Wilson in the 1920 and 1930 census in Hamilton Co. TX. She reported herself "widowed." In 1920 both J.C. age 15 and Herman W., age 11 were in the household. Norma was a saleslady.

In 1930 Norma was "widowed" and working as a bookeeper in a store. Herman, age 19 was living with her.

Norma died in Carlton, TX 22 June 1957, "widowed."

I located John W. Wilson in 1910 in Hamilton Co. He was 28, born in TX, parents b. AL. He was a farmer. Norma was 29, J.C. was 2.

I checked the California death index for any John Wilson who died in 1958 and was born about 1882 in Texas. I found none.

It appears that either John died 1915-1920 in Texas (though I could not locate him in the TX death index), or he and Norma were divorced/separated between 1915 and 1920. It is possible that Norma was not really "widowed" but that she used this wording to cover up a separation or whatever it was.

Does this information agree with your family's story? Or is there some other information you have?

Sharon

Marion Francis/Frances was born 1 March 1854, father William Francis. Marion died 21 March 1942 in Lawrence Co. KY. According to his death certificate his wife was Dicey, but she was deceased by 1942. Marion and Dicy were living in Lawrence Co. in 1930, so Dicy must have died 1930-1942. So far I have not been able to find her death certificate in KY or WV.

Marion Francis and Rodicy Price married in Lawrence County Ky in 1878. The reference is Vol 5A, p. 336. You might want to check out the Lawrence Co. genweb site and get a copy of that marriage record. I don't know how much information it will contain.

Dicy/Rodicy Price was born in March 1853 (per 1900 census). The only Dicy I can find that fills the bill is in Johnson County. The area where Marion lived was very close to the Johnson County line, so this is a good prospect.

Dicy's father was Thomas Jefferson Price (born 1818-1824) and her mother was Susan J. (perhaps Ward), born about 1827. Dicy was in their household in 1860 and 1870. I would investigate this family as good candidates for your ancestor.

Sharon Meeker

Kandy,

In my recent response to your message I noted that another researcher had indicated that my ancestor, William STEPHENS, (1745-1829) had died in Garrard County,Ky and was buried in the Liberty Churchyard of the Mason Fork Baptist Church. It puzzled me that there were two churches mentioned.

With a little research I have been able to solve the mystery. It turns out that the Mason Fork Church later became known as the Liberty Church.

The evidence I have is from the following link:

http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/Fam...

This link shows that most members who started the Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Callaway County, Missouri came from the Mason Fork Church in Garrard County, KY. The link also indicates that the Mason Fork Church later became known as the Libery Church.

I also note that two of the elders of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church were sons of William STEPHENS. They were Thomas P. STEPHENS and Elijah STEPHENS.

This new information gives me additional hope that William STEPHENS is truly buried somewhere near the historical Mason Fork Baptist Church.

I hope this may help you to find his grave.

Dave

Kandy,
Although there were several of my ancestors born in Garrard County, I have only been able to identify one that died there. He was William STEPHENS. He was born in 1745 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Another researcher has indicated that he died in 1829 in Garrard County and is buried in the Liberty Churchyard, Mason Fork Baptist Church. I don't know how accurate that information is. I was unable to locate him in any of the cemeteries shown on FindAGrave or other websites. I was able to find the historical location of the Mason Fork Baptist Church. The following link shows the location.

http://kentucky.hometownlocator.com/maps/feature-map,ftc,3,f...

I would appreciate it if you could find out where he might actually be buried.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi, my grandfather was James Broner McPherson. I am his son's daughter. My father has some geneology books on his family. He may be able to answer some of your questions. I am not sure I have heard him mention your name before. Who was your mother and father, Devorah? I see you posted 11 years ago, so probably not searching any longer.

I wasn't born here, but we live here in Garrard County now. I have posted some headstone photos on findagrave.com from some of the cemeteries here in Garrard County. If you're looking for ancestors, I may have posted some of their headstones. Lancaster Cemetery is large and I have only scratched the surface of the number of people buried there.
