Velma Brown "Duck" Smith, 86, of Versailles, widow of Marion "Skeeter" Smith, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, at the St. Joseph Hospital. Born in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Lida Mae Spurgeon Brown. She was a longtime member of the Versailles Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Bobby H. Smith, Versailles; two sisters, Margaret "Maggie" Wilder, Versailles, and Virginia "Gin" Thompson, Frankfort; three grandchildren, Mark H. Smith, Oldham County, Theresa Lamb, Floyds Knob, Indiana, and Michael W. Smith, Versailles; four great grandchildren, Brenna Smith, Matthew Smith, Rachel Lamb, and Eli Smith; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. A sister, Melva "Bird" Griffith, and two brothers, Van H. "Rass" Brown and Belmont Brown are deceased. Services were conducted October 22, 2002 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Woodford County.
