Dean Allen Dronen, 57, of Sandstone, passed away May 15, 2013.
Dean was born Jan. 18, 1956 to Gerald and Gloria Dronen. He grew up on a dairy farm south of Finlayson and graduated from Finlayson High School in 1974. He attended St. Cloud State University and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree on May 20, 1978. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1978 as an Airborne Infantryman, and was assigned to the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C. He transferred to the Minnesota National Guard in June 1983, and served throughout the state until his retirement in 1994. He then served as the Pine County Veteran Service Officer until his passing.
Dean was an active member of the local community, giving his time and talents freely to anyone he could help. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Askov American Legion Post 243, the local chapter of the Salvation Army, and several musical groups. Dean will be remembered for his life-long love of music, his cheesy jokes, and his love for his family, friends and community.
Dean is survived by his wife Jill; one son, Danny of Sandstone; three daughters: Nicole (Patrick) Hash of Fort Bragg, N.C., Sarah (Tyler) Benson of Perham, Minn., Emily (Kristopher) Gardner of Fort Campbell, Ky.; one granddaughter, Vivienne Nicole Benson; three brothers: Jerry D. (Jean) Dronen of Minneapolis, Dennis (Linda) Dronen of Finlayson, Dave Dronen of Finlayson; three sisters: Dianne (Dan) Englund of Brookings, S.D., Donna (Gerald) Graff of Greenbush, Minn., and DeVonne (Brad) Davis of Pine City; several nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog Boof.
Funeral services for Dean Dronen were held Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Askov, Minn. with President Wendell R. Smith and President Larry G. Johnsen officiating. Musicians were Nicole Hash, Sister Diehl, Randy Riley, Steve Johnson and Bill Taylor. Casketbearers were Dennis Dronen, Dave Dronen, Dave Andryski, Pat Petrowitz, Delvin Simonson and Les Darsow. Honorary casketbearers were Phillip Petrowitz, Jerry D. Dronen and Kristopher Gardner. Interment is at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Askov.
