Mr. Elbert Henry Butcher, age 91, of 245 Goodson Road, Lowgap, husband of Mrs. Ila Rose Lowe Butcher, passed away Tuesday evening at the North Hospital of Surry County.
Mr. Butcher was born September 21, 1913, in Surry County, to the late Troy Conce and Minnie Ida Gilley Butcher.
He served in the CC Camps in the 1930’s, was a retired diesel mechanic and was a Master bee keeper. He was a member of the Surry County Bee Keepers Association and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ila Rose Lowe Butcher of the home; two daughers and a son-in-law, Brenda Butcher of Lowgap, Judy and Ronnie Kenny of Galax, Va.; five sons and five daughters-in-law, Tommy and Joanne Butcher, Grafton, Va., David and Evelyn Butcher, Lowgap, Donald and Shirley Butcher, Galax, Va., Wade and Susan Butcher, Elizabethtown, Ky., Randy and Tonnia Butcher, Galax, Va.; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Fairy and Peter Zack, Jonesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Helen Butcher, State Road; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Butcher was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Dean Butcher, a great-granddaughter, Joanie Hawks; sister, Attice Anthony, and three borthers, Thomas Ervin Butcher, Ralph Lane Butcher, and Edward Butcher.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Mountain View Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Russell Parsons and Rev. Ronnie Kenny with burial to follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday night at Mountain View Baptist Church where his body will remain until the hour of the service.
