Just completing a home study course for NGS on my 5-great grandfather John Phillip Klingensmith. I am direct descendant of his son John Peter Klingensmith. You are right, he was not an Indian despite claims to the contrary. The Yale portrait my Jonathom Trumbull has two inscrip[tion: one say "Goote Peter" the other says "White Peter. He did not live with te Indians but lived on squatted land in Nanticoke, Ontario and was never accepted by the Grand Valley nation of the Seneca. He spoke German exclusively, was a friend of Joseph Brant and only his children could claim partial Indian heritage. This was confirmed by my visit to Oshwegen in 2004 by the Nation Historian. I forget his name, Mine is Michael Clinansmith. Fell free to respond.
