Greetings to all from Boone County, Ky.

We would like to pass on the below information to any descendants or interested parties concerning
Frederick TANNER (d. 1833) and wife Maria ROUSE TANNER :

Michael D. Rouse and I are working on obtaining a new memorial gravestone for
Frederick TANNER
- b. abt. 1753 Culpeper County, VA
- d. 1833 Boone County, Ky.
and his wife Maria ROUSE(d. abt. 1814 shortly after they arrived in Boone County, KY.)

This TANNER and ZIMMERMAN historic cemetery is located on Frederick Tanner's old farm land and on what is now near the 10th hole on a golf course in Florence, Boone County, Ky.

The DAR recorded this cemetery in "Kentucky Cemetery Records Volume I, Copyright 1960 by the Kentucky Society Daughters of the American Revolution".
Burials there are :
---F.T. >> DAR recorded that these initials were cut by hand on limestone rock -- however this rock has not currently been found.
F.T. initials for Frederick TANNER.
His wife Maria (nee ROUSE) TANNER is thought to be buried there also.
---Susanna (nee TANNER) ZIMMERMAN > daughter of Frederick and Maria TANNER who married Joshua ZIMMERMAN -- a good part of her gravestone still exists there
---Joshua ZIMMERMAN, aged 80 yrs, 11 mos

We have met with the appropriate persons to obtain permission to install a new memorial gravestone for Frederick and Maria TANNER.

After the new gravestone is installed this Spring, we plan to have a Dedication Service, Dedication booklet, and would like to plan a gathering afterwards at the nearby Hopeful Lutheran Church.

Therefore, any TANNER descendants or any persons interested in attending or donating to the Gravestone and the Dedication Booklet and Service, please email me at eastonhistory@fuse.net.

I will setup a email list to keep those interested informed of updates and future plans for this dedication.

Michael and I did this for the Abraham VAUGHAN cemetery last year and 28 descendants attended the event. It was wonderful meeting so many other descendants -- it was like we had always known each other and like we had always been family.
And so memorable for us to walk on the land that our ancestors had.

To view a draft of the inscription for the new TANNER memorial monument (with the Lutheran Cross symbol) and a 2004 picture of the gravesites on the golf course, please visit my website at : www.eastonhistory.com/tannercemetery

To view a listing of Frederick TANNER's ancestors and some of his known descendants, please visit my website at :
www.eastonhistory/fredericktanner

Thank you,
Kathy Easton Caminiti
Boone County, Ky.
website: www.eastonhistory.com
email: eastonhistory@fuse.net

I have read, all messages, about John B. Yager.
Not all Yager's, came to Virginia, some when to New
York, and Pennsylvania. Also remember, John is the
English spelling, not the German. Look for the German
spelling, of first, and last name. There are three
spellings, for John, in German. "JOHAN, JOHANN, and
JOHANNES" Also, there are three spellings for "YAGER,
YEAGER, and Jager"
Ray Groves

There is a will filed in Madison County Virginia dated 1794 for Adam Yaeger. I think it must be Adam Jr. In the will he mentions sons: Michael, John, Adam and Godrey. He also mentions grandsons Adam Clore and Benjamin Yaeger. There are several other names mentioned in the will also. You may also want to search for German Lutheran Churches in Madison County and Culpepper County. From what I've gathered the Yaegers were not part of the actual Germanna settlements and did live very close to them.

I am a direct descendant of John B. Yeager, originally from Virginia per the book "Rock Creek Crossings" the genealogy of the Yeagers commencing with George W. Yeager (John's 6th child). I, too, have hit a brick wall with John B. in VA and to the identity of his parents. If you have learned anything since your posting I was be terribly grateful.

Seeing your post from a few years ago I just wondered if you have any more information on Lippmanns. Specifically I'm looking for Johann heinrich Lippmann (also John Henry) born Kings Sept 1855. PArents from Germany / Prussia. He became I think a yeast salesman. Could he be related to yours?
Thanks

Hoffman, Eliza J spouse & Jacob (Brother?)

Looking for information on links to Eliza J Hoffman (dob 1824-1830) born in VA; Eliza's paretnts are believed to be William & Elizabeth (also of VA) but we have no information on them. Eliza J was married to Yancy May (possible spelling differences, reported at least once as Vancy). Eliza & Yancy also had Jacob Hoffman (Eliza's brother?) living with them reported in 1880 Fed census - after migrating from Shenadoah Valley or Culpepper, VA to Lewistown/Frederick MD. any insight on the parents of Eliza J, Jacob or Yancy is appreciated. I suspect the Yancy had some other spelling or name on most of the records.

Just noticed your post. I have recently found a Henry Holtzclaw (actually spelled "Holtsclaw" with an "S") in old Granville Co., NC records for the year 1764. I have a Y-DNA connection to the John Duncan who married Elizabeth Holtzclaw in circa 1760 She is buried at Sumpter Cem in Floyd Co Va. and had bro. Henry. Now what is so interesting about your note is that my ancestors also tie back to the Duke family of Bute/Granville Co., NC (Duke University bunch). Furthermore, my ancestor, Ambrose Harrison Duncan married Martha Slaughter(Schlotterer) daughter of Jacob Schlotterer who imigrated from Germany in 1749. He is said to have married a Hoffman or Huffman, but can't find any info on his wife, so she is not documented. Just interesting co-incidences, don't you think ?

1764 Tax list was for Robert Harris distr of Granville Co., NC. Can only find this one entry for Henry Holtsclaw in 1700's Granville Co.,NC

I hate to ruin such a long exchange;but, Johannes Kemper immigrated to the Germanna Colony in 1715 and changed his name to John Camper. Some of his sons kept the Kemper name and you may be descended from them.
John Camper married Alice Cathrina Utterback. Their son Harman Camper married Catherina Elisabeth Coontz (Kuntz). One of their sons was John W. Camper. From there this line is Peter Camper, John Lee Camper,Robert Withers Camper, William Thomas Camper, me. My grandson is the last male Camper in this line.

Ezekiel Smith is my 4th Great Grandfather. His son, Peter Dingess Smith is my direct line. I have seen the family bible in San Antonio and have touched it also. That was so very special for me to actually see something that belonged to Ezekiel and his family. I also have the information that is listed in the bible plus other information that was listed in the Library Catalog. The bible is very fragile and the binding isn't in good condition at all. I'd like to stay in touch with you. I think I wrote you before several years ago. You can get in touch with me through my e-mail at gailachterberg@yahoo.com. It's going to be nice to find new family members. I know that there is a Smith family reunion each year in Seguin, but I don't know when this is or who to contact.
Gail (Smith) Achterberg

Hello!

I'm so glad that you had the opportunity to visit the Germanna Foundation's Library and Visitors Center!! We're really trying to make it accessibile to all.

The parents of Elisabeth "Ailsey" Katrina Otterbach, the wife of John Kemper, are Herman Otterbach and Elizabeth Heimbach. Elisabeth's birthdate is 16 Apr 1697, taken from the church books at Siegen by BC Holtzclaw.

Herman and Elizabeth Otterbach traveled to Virginia with their daughters, but died soon after arriving as they don't appear on any of the records for Naturalization, or anything else. I'm a descendant of another of their daughters, Anna Margreth Otterbach, the wife of Jacob Holtzclaw. They, too, emigrated in 1714.

The home of the Otterbachs is still standing, and lived in, in Trupbach! This is the home of all of the girls born to Herman and Elizabeth. I'm glad to share any information with you!

Barb Price

Hi, I am researching John Rector's son Henry born Mar 1, 1736 and his son William Rector born July 5, 1768. According to Henry's will dtd Apr 2, 1781 he "leaves to son William 156 acres on which Capt William Smith lives" I have not found anything for William's will, I am looking for documentation that may list his children.

Henry Berry Yager (son of Maldinda Yager & James Yager)

Betty and Lloyanne were discussing the will of Adam Yager Madison County VA 1813 in another thread. Betty's last post to that thread on April 17 2008 ended with a discussion of Malinda and James Yager's son Henry Berry Yager and their grandchildren.

I have been researching another group of Yagers in Missouri and have run across various records for Henry Berry Yager in Pike County. I thought I would share what I have found with you in a new thread just in case someone might be interested.

The Henry Berry Yager family is in the 1850 census for Pike Co Missouri. The census record lists all of the children mentioned in Betty's post. This family can be fairly easily traced through subsequent censuses from this county. The IGI marriage database at familysearch also shows marriages in Pike Co for all of Henry Berry's children although I haven't looked at any original marriage records.

There is a death certificate database on the MO State Archives website http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/ containing original death certificate images and an online search index. So far I have found original death certificates images for what are clearly two of Henry Berry Yager's children, abstracted as follows:

Annie Bibb was born 27 April 1847, died 2 Jan 1933, Pike County, buried Eolia Cemetery. Parents are listed as Henry Yager of VA and ___ Hudson of VA. (would be Judith Anne Yager based on IGI record of marriage to Benjamin Bibb 03 Mar 1867)

David Hudson Yager was born 29 Apr 1843 and died 28 Feb 1918 in Pike County, buried Eolia Cemetery. Parents are listed Henry Berry Yager (VA) and Doshia Hudson (KY).

I think I have found death certificates for two other Henry Berry children, although the parental information is not so clear:

James Yager was born 1 Apr 1845 and died 4 Nov 1931 in Pike County, buried Eolia cemetery. Parents are listed as Henry Hudson (VA) and Elizabeth Hudson (KY)

Malinda Harbold age 83 yrs, died July 18, 1924 Callaway County, buried Louisiana MO. No parents listed. (based on an IGI marriage record for Malinda B Yager to George Harbolt 19 Dec 1865)

Death certificates for some of the spouses of these people are also on-line at the MO archives website.

I hope this information helps someone out. Please feel free to contact me and I will share whatever I have about this family although I am not a direct descendant of this Yager line.

Cheers,

Tracy
I only have two children listed for them, Johannes and Katherine and neither of them had children that I have listed. I would be very interested in hearing more about this line. Now am wondering if I've got the wrong Alfred Nelson...but have no reference books to verify (just discoverd the Germanna Colonies family history website today).

Need to confrim William's parents or Margaret Adelaine Hoffman's parents. Family history points to Germanna Hoffman's but I'm stuck!

Any info. on the individuals above would be much appreciated!

I would be interested in the WILTS connection to the FLESHMAN/FLEISCHMANN line. In fact, I am interested in any information on the FLESHMAN/FLEISCHMANN line. My fourth greatgrandfather was Robert FLESHMAN, who was married to Dorothea BAUMGARDNER. I have photos of their family burial site in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, if anybody is interested.

Robert was the son of Hans Peter, who was the son of Cyriacus (the immigrant in 1717), who was the son of Veltin.

Linda Johnston

Lloyanne, I tried to send this message earlier but it bounced back, so I'm
trying again:

Would you please let me know your e-mail address so we can exchange information
offline? I think we must have a ton of data we could combine.

The year I show for probate of John Smith's will is 1832, not 1852, both in his
will and in the court order book..

Note that John Smith is not shown as head of household in the 1850 Madison Co VA
census, but instead Jemima, his widow, is HOH -- a pretty good indication John
Smith was dead before the census was taken.

Because of the 1850 census data, you are right that Jemima died after 1850, but
I'm not sure we can narrow it down to 1852 on present information. She was 76
on that census.

As to her daughter Malinda Yager. Malinda married James Yager, Jr., son of
Elisha Yager, son of Adam Yager Jr., son of the immigrant Adam. The reason
James Yager, Jr., has that Junior after his name is because his uncle (Elisha's
brother) was called James Yager, Sr., meaning "older." (See John Blankenbaker's note #1615 to the Germanna List for further
explanation.)

Malinda's husband James Yager Jr. died as a young man, that is before Nov 1812.
They had only one child Henry Berry Yager, born 25 Nov 1810. Several documents
in Madison County court records support this, notably Henry's Guardian Bond
dated 28 Oct 1813.

Note that A. L. Keith assigns the wrong James Yager as husband of Malinda. He
shows her married to James Yager, son of Adam Jr., when she was actually married
to his nephew of the same name. Yowell repeats Keith's error in Germanna Record
#10, p. 43.

Here's how these marriages / relationships go:
Nicholas Yager, Jr. (son of Nicholas b. 1735, son of immigrant Adam Sr.)
m1: Anna Wayland in 1785.
m2: Jemima Yager in 1790.
Second wife Jemima is his first cousin (dau of Adam Yager Jr, son of immigrant
Adam Sr.)

Nicholas Yager, Jr., and Jemima Yager had 2 children:
(1) Malinda b. abt. 1791, and (2) Nicholas Wesley Yager b. 4 Dec 1792. Malinda Yager married her first cousin James Yager Jr. (son of Elisha, son of Adam Yager Jr.,
son of immigrant Adam Sr.) and had one child Henry Berry Yager. As to the children of Henry Berry Yager, the only source I have is Keith, who
lists his marriage and children as follows:
Henry Berry YAGER, b: 25 Nov 1810, d: 21 Apr 1881,
m. Theodosia HUDSON, b: 1820, d: 15 Apr 1896.
Children:
(1) Malinda Berry YAGER, b: 2 Feb 1842, (2) David Hudson YAGER, b: 27 Apr 1843, (3) James Henry YAGER, b: 1 Apr 1845	, (4) Judith Ann YAGER, b: 29 Apr 1847, (5) Aggie Margaret YAGER, b: 9 Mar 1849.

I think these children are correct because they are much closer in time to when Keith was doing his research.

Betty Johnson

I'm so glad to find another person who is interested in this family. So, my research on Jemima (Yager)Smith has lead me to believe that she died around 1852. First of all, she is listed in the 1850 Census for Madison County, page 103. She's listed as head of household with her children (as named in the will of John Smith)Lucinda, Jeanette, and Zachariah Shirley Smith.

The will of John Smith states: "It is my will and desire the remaining part of my estate after the death of my wife, their sd. mother, to be equally divided between all my aforesaid sons and daughters except the land that is to go as above mentioned & it is my will and desire that if any of my aforesaid sones & daughtes herein before mentioned should die without lawful heirs that their part of my estate by me herein before given to them shall be equally divided among their surviving brothers & sisters."

Probate was filed in Madison County court on 22 Jan 1852, so Jemima probably died in January of that year, or perhaps late in 1852. A document in the probate file states, after naming his surviving children: " . . . that John Smith of the county of Madison died many years ago leaving a last will and testament, by which among other things he left a portion of his estate to his wife Jemima for and during the term of her natural life and after her death to be divided amongst their children, that the property thus left consists in part of negroes, that the said Jemima died not long since and in consequence thereof the said estate thus held by the said Jemima Smith has become subject to division amongh the children of the testator according to the provisions of his last will and testament. . . "

The probate file is very large and I have yet to see all of it. It has not been microfilmed as far as I can tell, and the court clerk, while very nice, has told me she just does not have the time or resources to copy the whole thing for me. From what I can gather, the heirs could not agree how to divide the family's slaves. The court ordered a public auction.

I hope I can contact someone at Germanna so that I can submit this info to whomever is writing the book.

Do you know what became of Melinda Yager, daughter of Jemima (Yager) Smith by her first marriage? There are errors about her marriage in the Germanna Record#10. I'd like to know who her children were.

I am descended from Jemima Yager through her daughter Mildred T. (Smith) Rosson.

Lloyanne

BTW, I forgot to mention that Jemima's year of death is stated incorrectly the William & Mary Quarterly article entitled "Nicholas Yager Descendants" by A. L. Keith as 17 Dec 1824. That date is impossible because she was still living on 28 June 1832, as follows: "On the motion of Jemima Smith and Adam Y. Smith exors. And exox named in the last will and testament of John Smith deceased . . . cert. of probat . . . granted them." {Madison Co. VA Court Order Book #8, p. 35, 28 June 1832)

This error is repeated in Germanna Record #10, p. 37, because the author probably copied Keith's 1929 chart. Hopefully, the Germanna Foundation will be getting those types of errors corrected with the new Yager Germanna Record now in the works.

You have evidently found evidence that Jemima Yager Yager Smith did not die until 1852. Would you mind sharing?

Betty Johson

I don't know if this is of any help to you, but I have looked up all the Yagers on the Culpeper and Madison County, Virginia, Land Tax lists and also the Personal Property Tax Lists up through 1829.

Jemima, the daughter of Adam Yager Jr, who first married Nicholas Yager Jr. (son of Nicholas II, son of Adam Sr, son of Nicholas I) and second married John Smith, is found on both of these lists between her marriges:

Madison Co VA Land Tax List:
1795: Jimimah Yager 214 acres, of Sampson.

She evidently bought 214 acres from Sampson, but I have not been able to locate a deed. Probably it was never recorded.

Madison Co VA Personal Property Tax List
1793 Apl 3 Jimmima Yager--4 slaves over age 16, 2 slaves 12-16, 3 horses
1794 May 14 Jemima Yager--3 slaves>16, 2 slaves 12-16, 5 horses
1795 May 22 Jemima Yager--4 slaves>16, 1 slave 12-16, 4 horses

She is not listed on the land or personal property tax lists after 1795.

I have also done research on her son Nicholas Wesley Yager in Page County, VA. If you need that information, let me know. One entry of note in the "Survey of Nicholas Yager House, WPA OF VA HISTORICAL INVENTORY, #271, Page County reads: " . . . Nicholas W. Yager was born in Culpeper & reared in Madison from whence he came to Luray. His stepfather was not kind to him so in early manhood he started out on his own. . . . " That would be John Smith, evidently. Nicholas Wesley Yager prospered in Page County

Betty Johnson

Sorry, I do not know anything further about Philemon Yager. The Philemon named in the previously posted will was the son of Adam Yager and Juriah Berry. I am researching Jemima Yager, daughter of the aforementioned couple, and have not had much luck in finding records about her siblings. I do believe that several of them moved away from Madison County, Virginia.

Jemima Yager married first Nicholas Yager, then John Smith. She died in Madison County in 1852. Because she was left a large portion of her husband's estate in his will for her lifetime only, her death sparked a dispute amongst her husband's remaining heirs. You can view a handbill announcing the sale of her slaves here: http://www.lib.virginia.edu/small/exhibits/mellon/lrg_html/f...

Thanks for the info on the Historical Society in Madison. Med will be in No. Va. this summer and I am hoping to meet him (and maybe get dNa). He called about the upkeep of the cemetery. It would be nice to find someone locally Med and I could hire to clean it a few times a year. Either way, we check on it when we go to the Bluegrass Festival at Graves Mtn in May.

Please email me at winnerwunderland@aol.com and let me know your email address so we can discuss further.

Thanks, again. (I will be unavailable on email for a week.)

Judy Hoffman-Winner
