Hello, Trying to help a friend. Looking for a date of death and burial location for Helene Cochois b. abt 1868. Daughter of Louis Cochois and Genevieve Pitre. Lots of info available for her siblings on Rootsweb but she remains elusive. She married Peter Dunn 8 Nov 1887 at St. Anne's Tecumseh. They had 11(eleven) children and Peter died in 1911. She is listed on her son Peter Alfred Dunn's WWI enlistment record(1917). After that I have no further information. George Shaw-lived in Florida

Have information on most of Peter and Helene's children. Just wondered where Helene was buried. Stories from the family give the impression that the children were orphans. Peter died in June 1911 so they were very young. I get the impression from my friend that Helene died prior to 1923, and I don't believe she ever remarried. She also moved to Windsor after Peter's death. Many of her family are buried at St. Anne's Tecumseh Ontario, and she could be there as well but there is no marker. Thanks for any help. JM.
couchois family

edmond (edward) couchois Jr born on mackinaw Island about 1877 to Edmond(edward) couchois and Catherine E. Moreau (or Monreau). he married Margaret "Maggie" Maccoleman in Alpena, Mich on 7-2-1904. their marriage application was from alcona county, Michigan. They had five children: latina(or latona) born 1904, beaumont (Bud) born 11-20-1906, corresta M. born 1-1-1908, katherine born 10-28-1909 and orval james (Jimmie).
The family (except jimmie) are on the 1910 mackinaw Island census. By the 1920 census the children are divided among four family members. Maggie remarries William Willison on 9-16-1914. She dies in1915 at the age of 34 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetary in south Branch Michigan.
Edward may have remarried as there is a Edward Couchois, 41, married to May, age 36 with a 2 1/2 year old living in Reading, Berks County , Pa in 1920. He is listed as born i n Michigan and working as a mate on a steamship.
I am related on the Maccoleman side and live in Michigan.

I would like info on Latina. In 1920 she lived with her grandparents in Lansing, Mich and is still listed as Latona Couchois in the 1930 Detroit census. I know that she married but I don't know her married name.

My maiden name is also Cushway. My father was William Joseph Cushway born in Bethnal Green 1908-1999. I've traced his family back to a James Cushway, who apparently changed his name from Jacques Cochois when he came over from Normandy, France in early 1700s. He was born in 1712 and was a weaver, like the rest of the family till the mid 1800s. I'm looking for more information regarding his move from France and his name change.
Sue Stephenson nee Cushway

Hi there.... My family COUCHOIS.....also used CUSHWAY on Mackinac Island for the boat business Name.....My family was from the Island, Cheyboygan, Grand Rapids and Lansing areas...That I know of....I believe the Couchois and Cauchois are related as I think that when they signed coming over on the boats early on from France, then moving to the Canada area before heading to the island...that the O's and A's were often confused because of the penmanship....However I don't recognize the names you posted.....I am sorry that I can't help anymore....I wished I knew how to connect the dots...because I am certain there is a connection...
If I can help in any way please let me know.....
I will be glad to answer any questions you may have..
Thanks
C

Hi! I am hoping to find a CAUCHOIS connection. I am looking for any info about the CAUCHOIS family in the Monroe, MI area, comming from Quebec, most likely. I am trying to trace a Cecilia CUSHWAY, who married Joseph LESPERANCE (b.1800) - both born in Canada. They moved to Monroe, MI, where their name was changed to HOPE. I believe Cecilia to be originally Cecilia CAUCHOIS, probably born 26 MAY 1809 Sandwich, Essex, Ontario to IGNATIUS CAUCHOIS and TERESA LAPERLE. If you have any further info on possible connections, I would love to hear it.
Thank you so much!
Robin

Cauchois Family

My great grandmother was Mary Clotilda Cauchois. She was born in Sandwich East, Ontario (Windsor)in 1863. This Cauchois family arrived in Montreal in 1683 from Rouen, France. John Baptist Cauchois was married at Mackinac in 1764. John Baptist died in Detroit. I have a great deal more information. The Burton Historical Collection has a book 'French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1911' by Father Denissen that provides supporting detail for this family line. Let me know if you are interested in additional details.
Thanks!
Frank Vandelinder
