I'll add a photo of the kids from probably 1925 or so. The family probably should be grateful that Mattie came into their lives. The kids were a pretty traumatized group with their mother dying when they were 6,4,2 and 9 mos, then they spent time in a pretty awful orphanage while their father looked for work. Had it not been for her willingness to escort them to their father in the oil boom town of San Angelo TX and then care for them, they may have been split up. It probably was difficult for her as well to go to such new territory - TX then Colorado.
