Hi Theolyn Keels Loy - You are mistaken on James Withers Keels James Withers died in 1865 and his sons were E.C. Keels born 1825, W. Elliott Keels born 1831 and J.A. Keels born in 1833. I feel it is doubtful that any of these sons could have fathered a child born 1918. There may be another generation in between. I do feel that we are the same family Coppley was Elizabeth's (James Withers Keels wife) maiden name and She was a decendent of James McCauley a capitain in the Revolutionary war. The John Keels that fought in the battle of ft Moultrie seams to be a relative of ours, however no one has been able to link the Keels family in Greelyville to that John Keels. The John Keels that died in 1820 and the father of James Winters Keels is buried in the Keels cemetry outside of Greelyville. Mary his wife is also buired there along with another Keels. I believe that his wife was Mary Tycer (some think her maiden name was Tyler). The wife of John Keels that fought in the battle of ft Moultrie was married to Elizabeth Frierson and he was wounded in battle as indicated on the memorial in battery park in Charleston, SC John Keels date of death was April 10, 1789. I found these facts out at Ft Moultrie. They have a card file in museum. I hope this information is helpful. I plan to go back to SC to continue reseach. I hope to gather more facts prior to my visit. If you or any relative has additional information. Please EMail me. Thanks Carl Keels
