Source; The LeQuesnes of Jersey by Walter J. LeQuesne

Marie is mentioned as a daughter of Raulin and Guillemine in a legal document ( 3.210 dated August 1613) when she sold a portion of her inheritance to Thomas Le Mottez. In 1584, the Cour d"Heritage record shows Raulin as being in default to Andrey Le Mottez. Possibly Guillemine was a Le Mottee. Another legal document ( 5:258) makes clear that Thomas is the "fils aine".

" The marriage record is not very clear and suggest that it was Philippe fils Philippe that married Marie LeQuesne. However, the Ecclesiastical Court Records make the ancestry of Philippe plain and shows that the errant couple was forced into marriage by the Church.

Notes for JEAN LEQUESNE:
Source: The LeQuesnes of Jersey by Walter J. LeQuesne

The identity of the Jean LeQuesne who married Mabel Taylor at Grouville in 1708 is not at all clear. This Jean seems most likely on age grounds and possibly his father was the Philippe LeQuesne from St. John who died in St. Helier in 1723. Mabel Taylor died in childbirth and was buried on the same day that Charles was baptised.

180 A LeCain Francis Francis LeCain died Mar 7, 1806 aged 84 years

Obituary Notice in Minns' Weekly Chronice, published at Halifax in 1806:
" Died at Annapolis Royal, Francis Barclay Lecain, aged 85 years--the oldest settler in this county, and who lived sixty-four years in this town. He was always an honest and worthy man, and left about 100 descendants. He was fifty-five years a Freemason"

p. 537 [in Lecain family genealogy]: "Francis Barclay LeQuesne, whose name became anglicised to its present form, came to Annapolis from the Island of Jersey as "Master Artificer" or "Armourer" in the employ of the Board of Ordnance. The family were of the gentry, and their coat of arms, "ar. a lion pass. gules," motto, "Suis ducibus usque fidelis." The following obituary notice of him in the Minns' Weekly Chronicle pub. at Halifax in 1806, is presumably from the pen of Rev. Jacob Bailey: "Died at Annapolis Royal, Francis Barclay Lecain, aged 85 years--the oldest settler in this county, and who lived sixty-four years in this town. He was always an honest and worthy man, and left about 100 descendants. He was fifty-five years a Freemason."

Their coat of arms, "ar. a lion pass. gules," motto, "Suis ducibus usque fidelis."

There is a note at the end of the page added by the editor of the book, Judge A. W. Savary:
"I take the dates of births of Francis B. LeCain's children from an affidavit made by him in claiming for them a legacy left his wife by her aunt, Lady Mary Keate, sister of Thomas Hyde's wife. Many years later a belief became prevalent that a colossal fortune awaited the heirs of some Thomas Hyde, and I have found that numerous descendants of Francis B. LeCain by his second wife, ignorant of the second marriage, spent money and time in trying to investigate and recover this fortune, under the erroneous impression that they were descentants of Alicia Maria Hyde, instead of Elizabeth Foster."

Asa Huguenots at the time of Revocaton were in grave danger. Outlawed, their property confiscated by the state, and forbidden to leave the country on pain of death, how could one escape from this situation. There was little choice. To save their children form an uncertain future, many made their perilous way by escaping at night, by vessel to England and later to the new world.

Francis Barclay Lesquene Lecain was said to have come to Annapolis in
1742 Source is Calnick's History of the Annapolis Valley which also gives information on descendents of Francis Barclay Lecain.

Based on information from the book Historic Annapolis Royal by Ian Lawrence three generations of ;the LeCain Family operated a Blacksmith shop on Lower St. George Street. The area beyond these buildings was known as "LandsEnd or World End. The Shope was sold in 1864/

Notes for ALICIA MARIE HYDE:
Source: Louise Morell

Jane Spurr was the daughter of Mary LeCain and Abram Spurr. Mary was the daughter of Francis LeCain and Alicia Marie Hyde - thus the Hyde connection. The information thru the family is that she was of the Hyde's Estates and of Hyde Park in London. My Grandmother Lizzie Potter Parsons told that the when they hired the lawyer there had been 20 years to find all the heirs and the time was running out (I don't know how much more time there was) but he was unable to locate all the heirs thus it went to the crown. I had always taken it as a family fable - but when I saw that paper at Smith's Cove I realized there was something to it.
