My mother was a Zobel, from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin which is near Milwaukee.1880 Census lists her grandfather Carl Zobel. then age 49 Birthplace POM, father's birthplace POM. My mother's father is named Gustav Zobel, age 11 at 1880 census. I am very new to tracking the family records.
Family oral history says Carl and children were born in Samochin, "Germany" which I understand to be in current Poland. Believed they first went to New York City and then on to the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area...but sorry don't have anything definitive.
I alway thought the name Zobel was not a common name, but maybe further research will prove otherwise?
