I found this info at ellisisland.org, and am posting it because I'm working on the Chicago GESSERT line.
S.S. Rijndam (Ryndam) departing Rotterdam April 11, 1903
Arriving Port of New York (date not filled in; assume 12 days or so)
Gustav Gessert, age 22, a merchant, single, carrying more than $30
coming from Nierstein Germany to Chicago Illinois
meeting in the U.S. with cousin
Mr. Karl Mayer / Meyer
1501 Oakdale Avenue
Friedrich or Friedrick W. Feldman, age 21, also from Nierstein, also on his first trip to the U.S., and a few lines above Gustav Gessert on the same ship's manifest, was also going to meet the Meyer household at that address, but as a friend, not as a cousin.
Feldman is meeting "Mr. Ch Mayer" at that address; Gessert is meeting "Mr. Karl Meyer" -- spelling variants in the original. "Ch" might be short for Charles, an anglicization of Karl, or might refer to another man in Karl's household.
I haven't yet located a Chicago GESSERT family with M?YER relatives. Please pitch in if you know who they are!
