Chavous or Chavis, GA and SC

Hi-- our line spells the name Chavous, but
think it was changed from Chavis when they
came to GA. (Grandma was a Chavous.) I have
received info from family members and Pee Dee
researchers, but still have a few questions.
(Welcome cousins, too.)

Most of my family is descended from Hampton
Abraham Chavous and Christina Williams who
came to Richmond Co. GA from Orangeburg Co.
SC bef. 1870. He was the son of James Chavis and
Rebecca Milhouse? along with: Gabriel,
Patrick, Moriah, Josiah, Phillip, James Calvin,
and Missiniah. James' mother was Nancy
Chavous, do not know if that was her maiden
name or not.

We are also related to Anderson Chavous and
Vicy Weathersby who were already in Richmond Co.
GA. May be the son of Erasmus Chavous. There
was a John Chavous there as well by 1840. I know
nothing of their ancestry.

My g. grandmother's sister (b. 1875)married
into even another Chavous family out of Columbia
SC -- Thomas and Josephine Chavous. There were
also other Chavous in Aiken Co. SC decended
from a Levi and Nancy Chavous.

I haven't a clue how these various older
families were connected. Do any of you?

Thanks, Melissa Warren
