I go by the nickname of Benny. Frederick W. Benzel was my Grand Father and Amelia Sharp my Grand Mother. The following info came from his German bible: landed at Quebec, Canada 28 Mar 1866, went to Elletteville, IN 16 Jan 1869, born Munich, Germany 14 Dec 1839, died 30 Mar 1912 Ellettsville, IN.

I have an English bible given to my father (Wilber W.) from his sister and brother-in-law (H. W. and Lora B. Steen 28 Mar 1924.

Another sister was Antonette Brown who also lived in Ellettsville, IN. I can remember as a small child ~6-8 going up the hill to visit the Steen's who had a very large jigsaw puzzle they let me put together.

Another sister was Edna Muir. The only info I have on her is that she sent me a birth present.

I also have the name of Lucille Fowler, wife of Bluette Fowler. I can remember they were relatives and meeting them but don't remember anything else. It is possibe that Lucille is the fourth sister.

I would like to get any info you have. Send me your e-mail address

Benny

My great-great grandfather, AugustBenzel, came to US about 1850 with sister Caroline Benzel Iwan. They settled in South Bend, Indiana. The Iwans had a succesful hardware manufacturing plant there. August moved to Minnesota about 1860. I'm wondering if this the brother you spoke of settling in Minnesota. August married Amelie Baerwald.

Barb,
Looks like we are cousins. Your great-grandmother, Ernestina, was a sister of my great-grandmother, Lizzie (Louisa). I don't have any information specifically about her other than birth and death dates and the names of her two husbands, Paul Gims and Frank LaSell. Her parents were August Benzel 27 July 1826-28 May 1903 and Emlie Baerwald 13 Oct 1849-28 August 1936. They had eight children, Lizzie, George, Wilhelmina (Minnie), twins who didn't live, Pauline, Ernestina, and Henry.

August's parents were Gotlieb Benzel and Wilhelmine Robke.

Emilie's parents were Daniel Baerwald and Hanna Erdmutke.

Surnames: Baerwald/Berwald/Barwald, Erdmuthe/Erdmann, Freitag
Actually just realized Emilie Baerwald's mother's maiden name was Freitag. Hanna Louise Freitag must have originally married an Erdmuthe/Erdmann and had a son Herman August Erdmann. Hanna Erdmuthe then married Daniel Gottlieb Baerwald and they had Emilie - Herman August Erdmann's half-sister.
