My name is spelled Hosek, it is pronounced HO-SHEK if you spoke it in slovakian. but I have seen other close spellings
like HOSAK ,HASEK HOSCAK AND HOCEK are these related I don,t know? I have never met anyone on my fathers side nor have they written to me, So I could see the correct spelling of my name. All I can tell you is my father never disputed the spelling of his surname, and he was born a slovak and was 36 years of age when he enterd the USA.

My family spelled it HASIK and pronounced it Ha Sick but I suspect it's related to HOSEK and HAJEK as well.

You said HoShek was Slovak and my HaSick was Czech. The HoShek vs HaSick could be the dialect difference between the two locations. Or, it could be the way the locals in the USA pronounced the name. An area with more English ancestry might pronounce it differently than those with German or Polish ancestry (which is where my family lived.)

My Dad's Mom's maiden name was Hasiak...pronounced "Hasik". Her parents came over from Poland just before she was born. I have no idea who her Hasiak family is related to! I've just started the research. I know one of her Uncle's (father's brother) was born in Odziemjes Poland, according to his registration card. I have had no luck finding out where this Odziemjes Poland is or was though!
