Does anyone have a name for Charles DeQuasie's (1752-1840's) wife. Their daughter Elizabeth DeQuarie/DeQuasie that married David Alvis Jr in Fluvanna County, VA on 17 June 1807 is my 3th great grandmother. Some of Elizabeth's descendants state that their son Henry S Alvis was half Native Americans. This is probably wrong because the Alvises were of Scot descend and Charles DeQuasie was born in France. Hope someone can help.

This Charles DeQuasie is my 5th greatgrandfather. I've never had time to explore the land records that I know exists in Nelson County, Virginia but those possibly could reveal his wife's name is she were still living. My ancester was Charles' son William who m. Elizabeth Carey/Cary in Nelson County. I believe Charles also had a daughter who m. a Tom or Toms.

I would be very interested in knowing what family history has been passed down thru your line. I was not previously aware of your ancestor but have not researched the family in detail. Charles was a French soldier who fought in the Revolutionary War.

Land records, a Will or a Estate Settlement would be good places to find a wife's name but I don't have access to Nelson County, VA records here in Southern Middle TN. By the 1840 Nelson County, VA census Charles Dequiser was 80 to 90 and there was a female listed in his HH as 80 to 90. I would say this was Charles's wife. I have found no marriage for Charles DeQuasie or the many other spelling of Charles DeQuasie surname in Ancestry marriage index or any VA marriage books that are in the local libraies here. I would think his marriage would be in Caroline County, VA since he lived there for 16 year after his service in the Rev War.

Also by the Ancestry VA marriage index it appears to me that the following maybe Charles DeQuasie children since you can't find any other DeQuasies in VA.

Elizabeth DeQuosie to David Alvis Jr 17 Jun 1807 Fluvanna County, VA
Polly DeQueza to Charles Clark 4 Nov 1807 Augusta County, VA
John Decrisen to Charlotte Moses 10 Jun 1813 Augusta County, VA
N DeQuiser (Nancy) to Joseph Toms 23 Dec 1816 Nelson County, VA
William DeQuise to Elizabeth Cary 26 Nov 1821 Nelson County, VA
Thomas DeQuisee to Ellen Thomas 8 Sept 1823 Albermarle County, VA.

All of these other counties are close to Nelson County, VA. There are 2 more marriages listed on Ancestry and they are.

Uner DeQuere to Gilmore Baty 25 Dec 1828 Kanawha County, VA
Mary Ann DeQuasie to Peter Circle 2 Oct 1835 Montgomery County, VA.

These were probably grand daughters of Charles DeQuasie.

You are a good searcher. The Cary/Carey marriage was my ancestor. He and wife relocated to the Hump Mountain area of Summers County (Greenbrier at one time) and he owned 900 acres or more at the time of his death. There is a DeQuasie Cemetery at Lockbridge area and that is where he, Elizabeth and several family members are buried. Willliam "Bill" Wyman is a descendant of John DeQuasie. I too have never located a marriage for Charles but that is not surprising considering the number of records that were destroyed in some of the counties that he lived in. I live in Texas which is even farther removed from Nelson County. Bill is in Iowa, I believe. Have you had any luck trying to locate records for Charles in France? My great-greatgrandmother Laura Alice DeQuasie, daughter of Vardiman DeQuasie, son of William was born in Fayetteville, WV and was a twin. Fostina, manager of a Shoneys in Clarksville, TN is a granddaughter of Laura DeQuasie Washington Webb.

I had never found the time to research the DeQuasie lline in detail so it's very interesting to hear about the daughters.
