SWISS ANCESTOR. Mergy from Mandach, Canton Aargau, CH migrated to Mulhouse in middle 1500s probably due to religion (They were Catholic). Name was spelled Maerki, Merky, Mergi depending on whether the scribe was Catholic or Luthern and his education. Most settled in Illzac, Dornach, Grentzingen, Seine-et-Oise, & Mulhouse. I have records from 1570 from Arthur Mergy. Anna Barbara Mergy(1725) married Johannea Weber & had child Johannes Weber (17 Aug 1753.

Nancy, my gggrandfather came to the U.S. from Switzerland sometime in the 1840's. He ended up in St. Louis, MO for the 1860 census but I don't know where he was before and who his father, mother, brother or sisters are. His name was John Jacob Auer, born September 19, 1825 in Ober Hallau, Canton Sohaffous, Switzerland. Any connection to yours? Have you ever run across any information that might be a connection? Just thought I would check with someone else who might have a connection. Please let me know if there is any connection. Thanks.
