Surnames: Goforth, Pennington
Margaret L Goforth b. 1849 m. John Ferguson. Only know of 2 of their children: Julia m. Levi Pennington, lived at Covington KY; Martha m. McDowel Pennington son of Cretenton Pennington. George Edmond Goforth m. Margaret Louise Pennington in Clay Co KY, 1906 (my grandparents). I know that Margaret L. Goforth is the sister of George Edmond Goforth's father Humphery Posey Goforth. I think that Martha and McDowel Pennington are the Martha and Mac Pennington that lived in Drop Texas (Denton)close to Ed and Lou Goforth. Need lots of help with these Pennington's

I am not related so far as I know. The information I am going to provide you is from the various Clay Co. Fed. Censuses. From what I am seeing, it appears that John FERGUSON was married two times. Let us start at the 1860 Clay:
FURGERSON, David C., 65, b. NC, farmer
. . John, 17, b. VA, farm laborer

NOTE: NO other FURGERSON families and NO GOFORTH families listed.

1870 Clay Co. Fed. Census:
FURGERSON, John, 26, b. VA, farmer (John W. FERGUSON)
. . Melviney, 26, housekeeper, (Melvina ROBINSON married on 2-6-1865 in Clay Co., KY)

NOTE: There are still NO GOFORTH families and only ONE FURGERSON family listed in the census book.

Don't have the 1880 Clay Co., KY Fed. Census. Am jumping to the 1900 Clay Co. Fed. Census: As you most likely know, there is NO 1890 available.

FERGUSON, John, husband, b. 10-1843, 56 , marr. 27 yrs, he and his parents b. VA
. . Margaret, wife, b. 9-1849, 50, mar. 27 yrs, 13 children born; 12 living, she and her parents b. NC
. . William, son, b. 8-1875, 24, single, b. KY
. . Sarah, dau, b. 10-1887, 19, single, b. Ky
. . Henry, son, b. 1-1882, 16, single, b. KY
. . Charley, son, b. 9-1884, 15, single, b. Ky
. . Lewis, son, b. 6-1885, 14, single, b. Ky
. . Lucy, dau, b. 1-1887, 13, single, b. KY
. . Julia, dau, b. 1-1890, 10, single, b. Ky
. . Elizabeth, dau,b. 9-1892, 7, single, b. Ky
. . Gilbert B., son, b. 4-1895, 5, single, b. KY

FERGUSON, Green, husband, b. 1870, 29, mar. 10 yrs, b. KY, father b. VA; mother b. KY
NOTE: Perhaps this is John's son from his lst marriage???)
. . Martha, wife, b. 6-1869, 30, mar. 10yrs, 6 children born; 6 children living, all b. Ky
. . John, son, b. 3-1892, 8, single, b. Ky
. . Ester, dau, b. 11-1892, 6, single, b. KY
. . Luley, dau, b. 6-1895, 4, single, b. Ky
. . Chester, son, b. 12-1896, 3, single, b. Ky
. . Cory, dau, b. 6-1898, 1, single, b. KY
. . James, son, b. 1-1900, 10 months, single, b. Ky

I have a very limited number of marriage records. From these, I see:
Henry FURGUSON to Sudie GRIMES, Oct. 23, 1901-license date and Oct. 24, 1901 - marriage date, File 31.

Lewis FURGUSON to Emma HIGNITE on Nov 2, 1904 - license date and Noveember 2, 1904 - marriage date, file 32

Those two appear that they could be the sons of John W. and Margaret FURGUSON.

I think that is about all I can do for you. Hope this has helped.

Hello, I was researching my roots and came across you message. The line of Ferguson you are talking about is mine on my father's side. They were from Burning Springs. If you need any help i would be happy to help. Some of the ones you named like Green Ferguson is my great-great grandfather, and i have a picture of the whole family of that time.

Hello, Do you know if the daughter of John and Margaret Furgerson, Julia, married a Pennington? Or if John's wife is Margaret Goforth?
I may be confused on which Furgerson married which Pennington. She would have moved to Wise Co. TX before before 1900. She would have been the niece of Humphery Posey Goforth. HP's daughter in law was a Pennington. The Goforths, Penningtons and Furgersons were all in Clay Co KY in the late 1800s. (Burning Springs sounds so familar)

Nell, the names are not familiar but I don't know a lot about the Penningtons. My great grandfather, Humphery Posey Goforth, and uncle, Charles Goforth, are buried in Minnery Cemetery just outside of Dorp,TX in Denton Co TX. Macdowell Pennington is buried in Justin, not far from Drop, but I don't know if Justin is Wise or Denton Co. Who are the Goforth's that are buried in the cemetery as your great grandparents? Thanks, Margret

maybe i can help, the line you are looking for is my father's side of the family. Green Ferguson is my GG grandfather. I found some info on his father John Ferguson in The Pioneer Families of Clay County. It said he came from Ireland and landed in VA. If you need any more help let me know.
