FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census, Perry, Davis Co., IA: STARK, Josiah, 61, KY KY KY; wf. Sharlotte, 61, IN KY KY.

FamilySearch says Josiah STARK (28 Je. 1819, Henry Co., KY - 13 Dec. 1891, Davis Co., IA; s/o Persis BOONE & Abner STARK) m. 17 Aug. 1840, Decatur Co., IN, Charlotte D. ROSE (17 Je. 1817 - 26 July 1893, Bloomfield, IA). [The database of Indiana Marriages to 1850 doesn't have the marriage. It does have a marriage for Josiah M. STARK.]

Abner STARK (15 Oct. 1786, KY - 18 Mar. 1843, Decatur Co., IN) m. 20 Feb. 1811, Persis BOONE (9 Oct. 1791 - 14 Oct. 1875, Bloomfield, IA).

Wm. Joseph STARK (20 Jan. 1753, VA - 1821, KY) m. 1782, Hannah. Wm. Joseph was s/o John STARK & Ann WYATT.

A Google search for "John Stark" +"Ann Wyatt" +VA
will bring up a large file for John STARK (1715, VA - 3 Dec. 1799, Hanover Co., VA), colonel of county militia, who m. 25 May 1735, Ann WYATT and lived in St. Paul's Parish.

Proving all of this should keep you occupied for now. :-)

USGenWeb > Iowa > Davis County has the cemetery record for Josiah which says that he was b. 28 January 1819 instead of 28 June 1819.

In 1860, Perry Twp., Davis Co., IA: Josiah STARK, 46, KY; Charlotte, 41, KY; Talitha J., 9, IN; Isaac TRISLER, 8, IA.

So take your pick, was Josiah b. 1814 or 1819? Was Charlotte b. KY, as this says or in Indiana as 1880 census says?

Davis Co. side also indicates that there were original land entries for Abner W. A. STARK, 23 Nov. 1848, & for Josiah STARK, Nov. 1849. That gives of the question of why they had land records before 1850, but Talitha, 9, was b. IN--more fun.

There is an index for the 1850 Census, Davis Co., with several STARK entries, so maybe somebody can check the actual census for you.

Thanks, maybe this is why I could never find anything on Charlotte D. Stark in Ky, she could be from Decatur Co. Ind where they were married.

Thanks for the data. It's interesting that the name Wm. wasn't on any of those records. Joseph could have dropped the first name, been Joseph Wm., or the name Wm. might just have been an error. Take your pick! :-)
