I am trying to find out a bit more about my mothers family, she was an Eddington. I am new to all this, really don't have much information to offer, but would appreciate any info you would be willing to share. My mother was Dorothy Edith Eddington, born 12/21/1913 to Russell and Emma Eddington in Overland, MO, died 7/19/1997. There were 7 children born to Russell and Emma; Dorothy (being the oldest), Vivian (deceased), Virginia, Isabelle, Donald (deceased), Marvin (deceased) and Olive Jean. My grandmothers maiden name was Bauer. I saw on the board the last name "Downs", I have heard that name many times through the years, but not sure of the connection. There was family that lived in Brighton, Il.

Russell Eddington and Emma Dora Bauer Eddington are part of my very large family tree file. A large percentage of my file
is the Eddington branch, which was my mother's side of the family. I have over 400
pages of info, excluding copies of marriage records, etc. I have information on 5 generations of Eddingtons BEFORE your Russell
Eddington. I am your 4th cousin. I am using Family Tree Maker software. Your kinship report from the people in my files is 23 pages long!

Connie,

I have recently uncovered the Eddington surname as part of my family tree. I have so far Rebecca J. Edington (thats the spelling that was given to me) b. 1846 (according to the 1870 Dallas Co, MO, census) in MO. She was married to David A. Pierce. Do you have such a person in your data base? Her children were Nancy A. Pierce, Thomas W. Pierce, Kelly Pierce and Mary Augusta Pierce. David Pierce d. ca1878 and was a civil war vet.I have been given as her death date 1886 but not sure where, except that I know it was in MO. But she is not listed in the 1880 Dallas Co, MO census. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Sherry,
At this time, I do not know of the connection, if any, between the Eddingtons
in my data base and the Ed(d)ingtons of Missouri. I have people in IL, AR, IA, TX,
OK, CA. One family (for unknown reasons)
changed the spelling of their surname to Edington with one "D". I have one Eddington contact in Missouri, I will try to reach, who thinks that some of these other Eddingtons may be related. I'll see if he can look into it. Any leads, I will pass on to you. Best of luck.

My father-in-law always spelled his name with 2 'D's but when he sent for his birth certificate a few years back, it come to him with only one 'D'and say to least, he was mad about it. My husband's name was spelled with only one 'D' on his birth certificate and when he went into the military, they would not use 2 'D's because it was not on his birth as such, so we had to use only one 'D', but when my husband got out of the service, he returned to using two, but I stayed with one, to keep from having all my papers changed and my children from having to get used to using two. I know this all sounds very complicated, but the doctors that delivered the children years back are probably the main reason the name was changed. I am still looking for info on Richard Edington/Eddington that lived in and around Coon Island, Butler County, MO. and may have lived in Arkansas about the end of the 1800's early 1900's. I have not been able to get any info into this line of people at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nancy Rattz at nrattz@alltel.net
