The Cariker who moved to (founded) Clayton, Tx was Jacob Cariker, the older brother of my ancestor Jefferson McDowell Cariker. Their father was John Cariker b. 1785 in NC. John moved to Pike Co, Ga about the same time (1835) as his father George Cariker (Karcher) moved to Heard co where he died the following year.

Jacob moved from Pike co to Clayton about 1845 or perhaps later. He is buried there in Clayton. Jefferson moved to Clayton/Long Branch about 1900. He is buried in Clayton cemetary too.

Hello All, My family research has led me to check out the Julia F. Cariker that was married in 1858 to William B. Whitfield in Panola Co. TX. I see on the 1870 census she was married to a Mr. Tingle. My great-grandfather, William B. was listed as a single on the 1870 Sabine Parish, LA. census. Do you know of the death/departure of William from the household of Julia?

Please email me at marilea@leveeblues.com

Many thanks,

Merrily

Heydad!!!
I can't believe I found you on the internet search engine!!!
I have a little research on Jacob, a good site is http://www.familysearch.org
Love ya!!!
Jacob Cariker's parents had 12 children, born between 1811 and 1842. Jacob born on 10-12-1814 died on 11-18-1877. He was married to Adaline Jordan in Gorigia. Marrige date: 1-25-1839. There are no direct records to thier children, but There was a George Cariker born 12-27-1891 and a Jessie cariker born 8-9-1897 in panola, TX. These two individuals have no parents on file, however they are probably the grandchildren of Jacob and Adaline.

There was a J.S. Cariker married to a Sallie Page in on 1-10-1872. I believe in panola. This J.S. Cariker could be Adaline and Jacobs child.
