I ordered a copy of the BONHAM book by Elmer B. Hazie from the FHC. It is on film. I copied a few pages that concerned our line. George> Nicholas> Hezekiah> Samuel > Samuel> Peter> Elisha Landon. I spent many years looking for that missing link between Peter and Elisha. Then I began corresponding with Howard E. Bonham.

In his book, BONHAM AND RELATED FAMILY LINES, he shows our line as George> Nicholas> Hezekiah> Amariah> Peter> Elisha Landon. He also quotes two wills to verify this. On page 158 Amariah mentions his son Peter, and also names him as one of the executors of his will. In Peter's will, p. 161, Peter names both Elisha and Jesse as sons.

After Elisha Landon Bonham's first wife (Nancy Norris) died, Elisha left his children with Jesse and Hannah (Hoover) Bonham.

This is a brief descendant chart. If you wish to contact me my E-mail address is:

I thought might be of interest to
some of you Bonham Researchers.A Dr. Emmett L. Smith wrote a book
on the Bonhams. He was the son of
Rev. Elias Beal Smith and Margaret Bonham.
It has quite a few letters etc. some
containing family trees. One family
moved from Texas to Ohio in some of the
family moved to Ill. and some to Minnesota
per his book. Emmet lived in Chicago,
and he lists two others, probably siblings,
as M. Ella Smith Rhoads of St. Paris, Ohio
amd William Evan Smith of Bellefontaine,
Ohio. His parents are buried at Bellafontaine
Ohio. The dates he covered were from 1631 to 1908.
Another book was written by Samuel J. Bonham
of Niles, Ohio and published in 1955. 100
copies were printed and No. 64 was presented
to the Minnesota Historical Society.
It contained pictures and 8 family charts.
He had an index to his book. Dr. Smith
has a list of Bonhams were were War Veterans,
and also a directory of a lot of the
Bonhams and where they lived.

Have you come across a Davis Boham b. early 1800 and a Peter Boham b. 1788 Maryland. I have seen Nicholas Bonham listed a BOHAM in the past. Can't seem to tie these two into anyone's tree. Even considering Beham or Benham. Any info would be appreciated

My father, Howard E. Bonham b 1904 d 1998, researched the line for 25 years. He had E.L. Smith and Samuel Bonham's books as well as the three by Elmer B. Hazie, who continued their work. Dad and Hazie became fast friends and Hazie's family offered Elmer's files to Dad when Hazie died. Dad, via my husband, published a 646 page book on the Bonham line in 1996. He covers a small bit of English history, but was more interested in the descendants here in America. Much of Smith and S. Bonham that could be verified was included. Much of Monnette was flawed. Dad could not, however, ever prove that George, b 1604/8 in Essex was the father of Nicholas who married Hannah Fuller. He does have a wonderful speculation in his book about the captain of the ship Phillip, upon which George came to America in 1634/5. Dad also, as many now know, did not believe that Ann Hunt was Hezekiah Sr.'s wife 2. He made many a trip to NJ and the many archives there.

Thank you for your reply. Is anyone doing
further research since the passing of your
Father?

Unfortunately, no one has picked up the torch...and Dad had completed 11 generations and 13 related lines to my sister and me and our families. There's not much more to research. Remember ... he spent 25 years at it. Almost fully consumed the last ten years.
