My father was Howard Franklin Shrode born 5/2/1915, died 7/8/1967. His father was Enos William Shrode, married to Naomi Bufkin. My dad was an only child (as am I). Jack Shrode was kind enough about 10 years ago to send me a copy of the I.T. Taylor book - quite interesting. Enos is descended from John Shrode of Pennsylvania.

I live in California - am interested in any contact with "lost" relatives!

My maternal great grandfather was named Isaac Newton Shrode. I have found nothing beyond that point. He married a Lydia Davis and they had twelve children. My mother was the youngest of the twelve. If you have any information about anyone beyond these two I would appreciate your help. *I believe that they all lived in Chrisney and Evansville Indiana. Thanks for your help. Darleen

Thanks on the info. The info I have on a John Shrode was that he was one of the brothers that came to the US from Germany (Jacob and Henry were the other two). John settled in Penn. and was a prominent citizen. He served in the Revolutionary War. The info I have is there is no record of his birth or death, nor of his parents in Germany. The 1790 census showed he had 2 daughters, names unknown. It is claimed that the brothers came to America in 1761 or 1762 to avoid the draft in Germany. In fact, it's said that John killed an officer that ordered him to kill game and prepare a feast for a nobleman. John's son William was born on the high seas in 1762. I get this info from I.T. Taylor History of the Shrode Family in America. I am descended from John's son John born in Penn., his son Henry born in Kentucky in 1810 is my great-great-great grandfather. Thanks for any info you can send.

I am a descendant of John Shrode as well on my mothers side. Her name was Viola Shrode and grew up in Grandview In. Ivan Shrode was my grandfather. William Luce Shrode and Viola (Guernsey) were Great Great Grandparents. I also have a copy of the Taylor History. And that is as much as I know, plus some family lore about the "flight" from Germany in the 1760's.

Thank you Phil for your reply. Does that mean that we are related? I know I have dozens of relatives on the Shrode side that I've never met. I would love to know more about the flight from Germany if you have it -

Joyce

I also am descended from John Shrode. His son, Francis P. Shrode's son, Hudson McDonald Shrode was my father's maternal grandfather. That branch moved from Warrick County Indiana up to Pike County Indiana. I just ordered the book about the Shrodes from Quinten Publications. Looking forward to seeing it.
