I have just barely begun to search for some of
my Polish ancestors, and would appreciate any
information on the surnames I have listed. They
should be in Suwalki Co. Poland in the 1870's
till 1908. Thank You

My paternal grandfather was Simon Urbanowitz from Suwalki area. His parents were Simonis Urbanowitz and Annae Paskiewicz (probably Pascevicius or similar name). He was baptized in Wischtinitz bei Eidkuknen, West Prussia (now Vistytis, Lithuania).

There are no people living in Chmielowka or Filipow with any of these names. The closest person I find with the name of Cylwa is in the village/parish of Przerosl.

What religion did your family practice?

Hello! Thanks for your answer.
My family is Protestant. My family burst during WW2 and the persons split into Germany, France, USA (Canada?) and South America (Puerto Rico). My grandfather Adolf CYLWA had a brother who emigrated between 1900 and 1920 in the USA but I don't know his first name. There were in relationship until the war and got lost. My family has German origins and have to go away asap during the war.
I am living in France.
The information about my family are on : http://gw.geneanet.org/tcharl
Have a good day

I checked the Ellis Island website, and was not able to find anyone with the name of CILWA or CYLWA, who came to the US through that port. http://www.stevemorse.org/

There are two women, who left from the Port of Hamburg:

Hi Tina,

The only thing I have on this ancestor is that they lived near Grodno Poland (Green Town Kamedulskiem).

His name was Mateusza BARSZCZEWSKA and his wife's name was Josefy SZCZESNOWICZOW

Their daughters name was Stella Louise (I think her polish name was Fosefa as that's how it appeared on
the Ellis Island records) She was born on 02 Oct 1882.

I hope your cousin might have some more information on this family.
Thanks
Duane

His research goes back to the late 1700's in the parish of Filipow, powiat of Suwalski, in Poland. At this time there would be no known connection to family in Belarus.
