I am a Spille first generation emmigrant. My grandfather was Johann Heinrich Spille bornn June 18, 1910. In Aschenstead, an unincorperated town in Germany near Doetlingen. This is the first time visiting the boards here. If there is anything I can tell you or vice versa. Thanks. I am just starting a family history so as yet have alot of info available that I haven't got down.

I am a descendant of John Spille (also spelled Spiller), born 1842 in Oldenberg. His parents are listed as Johann and Maria. Any connections??

I haven't been to this board in a while as you can see. If you are still looking for Spille family, I have a little more information. I believe Henry's mother was Ann Margaret. I have more information if you would like me to dust it off and look closer. Candis

Henry Spille was born in Oldenberg November of 1833. He came to America with his parents in 1848. (Anne Margarethe and John) and farmed in Ozaukee County until 1857, moved to Manitowoc until 1865, enlisted, then later moved to Cedarburg, then to Butternut in 1877. If you can connect any of this please let me know, Candis

Candis ... maybe a connection. My John Spille was born Feb 2, 1842, also in Oldenburg (which one though ... I have found five in Germany). On his death certificate his parents are listed as John Spiller and Maria Schroeder, which wouldn't jive with Henry's mother.

1855 Wisconsin Census lists John Spille in Mequon (Ozaukee County).

1880 Census lists Henry Spille (Butternut, Ashland County) as being born in Pomerania, age 46, with children Alfred (21), Anna (18) and Ellen (9). There certainly is an Oldernberg in Pomerania. 1900 Census lists Henry Spille of Butternut born November 1833 with Kathrena (49) and Philipena (14).

1900 Census listes Alfred as being hospitalized at the Marathon County asylum.

If you could identify Oldenberg as the one in Pomerania, we might have two brothers. It would seem like quite a coincidence that two Spille families were living 15 miles apart (Mequon - Milwaukee) and not be related.

Candis,

Yes, I've been trying to establish a connection between the John who lived in Mequon in 1855, my John Spille and the Henry who served in the Civil War.

Your information would be a big help, especially if you can tell me where Oldenberg is ... as I said, there are several in Germany.

BTW, my great-grandmother was a Spille.

I am not sure about the connection. I haven't been able to do any research at all. Sorry.

Hello Keith,

I have been studying the Spille tree for quite a while. If you would like, I would be happy to lay my hands on what info I have thus far (sketchy at best) compiled with the assistance of Rutgers University.

My Dad, Edward M. Spille Sr., his father, Edward A. Spille
and his mom, Mary Stewart are from the Jersey, specifically, New Brunswick area.

Dad was born in 1926.

He did some tracing and found we are descendant from the Germans at Oldendorff as well. John seems to be an extremely common name in the family and thus the search becomes muddled.

In any case, if you would like, let me know via email and I'll share what I have with you.

Kind Regards,
Don Spille

My grandfather's name was John Henry Spille. He was born in Germany in the late 1860's. He was a businessman and met my grandmother, Ottile Jankowsky, on a ship on her way to this country from Russia, avoiding the revolution. She was born in Latvia. My father was their first-born in 1912 or 1913 in Union City, IN. There were other Spille families in the near-by Indiana and Ohio area, some who were cousins. I have seen the 1930 Census with the whole family named (my dad had 3 other siblings). I have a nephew Kraig Spille, and a sister Donna. I do know that several other Spille families settled in the south.

Hello Don,
I was reading these posts and I seen that you have someone in you family that is named Edward Spille. Does he live in Louisiana? Also, is Jeddie Spille part of this family tree? Please respond to my e-mail address. Thank you!!
