I'm looking for help in researching my family from Markusovce. I'm looking for the Buday or Budaj family which may be linked to the Machuska family. Any help is appreciated.

The LDS-Mormons website is listing Roman Catholic church records of Markusovce. You can order the films and gather ancestral information. You can also send a request to the archive or hire a researcher for the research.

www.zoznamst.sk is listing BUDAI and BUDAJ.
No MACHUSKA in SK's phone book unless this is "americanized version" of what ? . OK, went to check in Ellis Island website. There is a MACSUSKA (Hungarian spelling) that was from Markusfalva/ Markusovce. A surname MACUS^KA and MACUS^KO list in SK's phone book but not in Markusovce.

Too bad you did not follow thru with the information in 2003 that I posted to your first query. You would have been a long way on your research. (no need for an explanation. busy life)
Using One Step to locate an Ellis Island manifest www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html from Markusovce : 35 people; from Markusfalu: 134 people; from Markusfalva: 98 people; from Marksdorf - 4. All the names that Markusovce had.

Zlatica,

Just finished viewing the films for Slovakia, Census, 1869 Szepes , Markusovce and Porács. .

Practically every name that comes up @ E.I. for Markusfalu, Markusfalva, Marksdorf is listed in the 1869 census with the exception of "Budaj".

Family Search has no mention of the surname anywhere close!

Although the Joseph Buday mentioned in several queries though out the years mention Markusovce. I do not believe that this is where the family originated. (They may have lived there or the attatched transliterated village is in error).

In my experiance viewing FHL Films, one at least comes upon the name in the village and the surrounding villages....

Available records for Márkus-Csépánfalu (Markusovce), Szepes, Hungary. Include the affiliated towns of:

Èepanovce, Lieskovany, Teplièka, Rudòany, and Porác.

The Church of St. Michal the Archangel drew Roman Catholic parishioners from Markusovce and many surrounding villages....

Hi,

Here's a baptism record for a Buday in Markusovce (bottom of page):

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1951-22657-24535-37...

Says the father was from Galicia.

I'm guessing this is joseph's baptism record:

Thank you Chris....That explains my wife and her being adamant about her Polish roots....I know she is "Slavish" perhaps maybe Rusyn / Lemko? That is very far west though..

Dakaju Zlatica for looking that up!

Prajem príjemný deň,

Dennis

Chris,

You guessed correct!

Just how did you track him down there in Spišský Hrhov?

Who would have thought?

I did a search on familysearch.org for Joseph Budai, parents Joseph Budai and Susanna Matyucsko, and limited it to records from Slovakia.
