Has anyone researching Gullett families in Tennessee come across a George R.Gulllett (b. approx 1832-33)? He married Mary Beavia in Randolph County Arkansas in 1867, and later shows up in the 1880 census for Fulton County Arkansas, Pleasant Ridge Township. He is my ggg grandfather. Appreciate any help.

George R. Gullett was b. Carroll Co. TN. His wife was b. in MS from the 1870 Census.

George Gullett 77 Farming DE
Elizabeth 26 TN
Nancy 20 TN
Jane 20 TN
Leetha E. D. 6 TN
G. R. (male) 14 TN

George b. 1773 DE Gullett's wife Nelly Last Name Unknown on the 1830 Carroll Co. Census was 40-49, she had died by 1840 Census and no male children are listed below the age of 20 on the 1840 Census so George R. is likely a Grandson as is Letha E. D., don't know who their parents were.

1860 Lawrence Co. AR
George Gullett 22 Farm Labor TN
He is living in the Household of Samuel Robinson 55 Farmer KY.

George R. Gullett m. Mary Beaiva/Veaiva(Beavers??) 08 Dec 1867 Randolph Co. AR

1870 Roanoke Township(Pocahantus PO) Randolph Co. AR
George Gullet 37 Farm Hand TN
Mary E. 29 Keeping House MS
Margana 8 AR
Martha S. 5 AR
John W. 1 AR

From the above info (Margana 8, Martha S. 5) George R. must have been married prior to Mary E. since they married in 1867.

John W. Gullett m. Belle Maxey
Groom's birth date: 1867 age 36
Groom's birth place: Ash Flats, Sharp Co. AR
Bride's birth date: 1880 age 23
Bride's birth place: Ash Flats, Sharp Co. AR
Married 08 Nov 1903 Sharp Co. AR

All the above does not agree with Bell Maxey on the 1900 Census.

George Gullett b. 1773 Kent Co. DE some disagreement on family trees as to who was his father. He was a descendent of William Gullett and Susannah Mills Somerset Co. MD.

The Gulletts in Kent Co. DE didn't actually move there the state line between MD and DE was redrawn and that part of Dorchester MD became Kent Co. DE.

I will have more later. George R. Civil War File, and John and Bell on the 1910 Fulton Co. Census and 1920 Cherokee Co. OK Census.

Thanks for the info on George. I am somewhat confused about the connection of Belle. Not sure if she is Sarah Belle Maxey. All I know is that John W in our family is John Wesley Gullett, father of Homer, Ransom, Frank, Thelma, Henry, Roy, Pearl, Louie. All of these are family members. "Belle" is listed in the census records.John Wesley I believe to have been born in Arkansas. His father is George R. Gullett, born in Mississippi married to Mary E. Maxey born in Ireland.
Would love to figure out this family. We keep finding another relative! Does this give you any clarification?

Clay,
Thanks for the reply. I have a few questions re: your information, some of which I sent you last time we corresponded. I would prefer to ask the questions through e-mail, however, and lost your address. Can you write me at trapperdave@ashlandhome.net? Thanks. I think I can help on one of your lines also. Let me give you the 1910/20 Census info and G. R. Gullett's Civil War File. This may clear up some of the confusion.

Lawrence, Sharp, Fulton and Randolph Counties are all in the NE section of AR and more or less adjoin each other. Since I have found no land records for George R. Gullett he could move around from county to county as a tenant farmer and could have married in more than one county. I have not found George R. on the 1880 Census or any of the rest. Here is another marriage

George R. Gullett m. Melvina Oliver 25 Feb 1882 Lawrence Co. AR.

I have found no other G. R./George R. Gullett than what I have posted. The MS birth state is only listed on his Civil War POW record, all the rest say TN not IN, though John W. on the 1920 is listed as AR MS IRE, on the 1910 as AR TN TN.

It's Belle Maxey's mother who lists her father as b. Ireland and mother b. Scotland.

1910 Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co. AR
John W. Gullett Head 42 mar.twice 6yrs AR TN TN
Belle Wife 32 mar.once 6yrs 5children/4living IND IND IND
Thelma Dau 7 AR AR IND
George H.(Henry)Son 5 AR AR IND
Frank Son 4 AR AR IND
Ranson O. Son 8months AR AR IND

1920 Dist 19, Cookson, Cherokee Co. OK
John W. Head 52 AR MS IRE
Bell Wife 39 IN IN IN
Thema Dau 17 AR
Henry Son 15 AR
Frank Son 13 AR
Ranson Son 10 AR
Roy Son 8 AR
Pearl Dau 3 2?months OK
Louis Son 11months OK

I have found Ranson on the 1930 Rogers Co. OK. Frank and Roy on the 1930 Detriot MI Census. None of the rest. Homer must have been born after 1920 Census since he appears on no other.

If someone has found George R. on the 1880 tell what county and how he is listed. He doesn't come up using soundex by any spelling of Gullett. I went through the entire Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co. AR Census for 1880 and 1900 and found no Gullett/Gullets.

I don't have a George or George R. or G.R. Gullet(t) who was born in MS.

There is a George R. Gullett son of Abram/Abraham and Susannah Gullett in Dearborn Co. IN but he was born in 1846 and is no match for the George R. in AR.

The source records are the Federal Census images and AR marriages at ancestry.com and footnote.com.

There is a record for J.W. Gullett m. W. E. Mckee 22 Nov 1888 Sharp Co. AR

A Death Record for John Wes. Gullett d. 08 Feb 1945 Lawrence Co. AR.

Sometimes the information gets muddled handed down from generation to generation. Does anyone have Bible or marriage records for this family?

Just as a guess I think that Mary E.'s last name could have been Beavers, on one marriage record is is Beaiva and on another Veaiva.

No wonder I couldn't find him using the soundex he is indexed as George K. Griffith 57 Wd Miss Tenn Tenn. I have entered a correction at ancentry.com.

Sheet 15 Line 22

1880 Pleasant Ridge, Fulton Co. AR
George R. Gullett 57 Self Wd Farmer Miss Tenn Tenn
Margana 17 17 dgtr single AR Miss TN
Jenk 14 Son single AR Miss TN (James E. "Jenk/Jink"
Isabella 10 dgtr single AR Miss TN

The birth place of George R. and his wife Mary E. Baird have been reversed on this census it looks like to me.

Just to be sure I checked the Gulletts/Gullets in Miss. I have done a lot of work on them and I didn't remember a George R. b. ca 1833 and I didn't find one.

There is a family of Gullicks in Miss who changed their spelling to Gullett and I checked them no George R., the Gullicks are another family I have reseached alot since they try to claim my John Gullett of Cecil Co. MD as theirs though they are both listed seperately in Cecil Co. MD. John Gullett d. 1753 Cecil Co. and John Gullick d. 1786 to 1814 Mechenburg Co. NC according to their family trees. I have the inventory and settlement of John Gullett's estate 1753-1755. The Gullicks also lay claim William Gullett and Susannah Mills.

Just a bit of Arkansas history info for everybody looking at George R Gullett.
At one time Lawrence County covered about 1/4 or more of eastern Arkansas. As county lines were drawn, Sharp, Fulton and other counties were cut out of Lawrence Co. So people didn't have to move, just new counties were created. This almost drove me crazy for a while with my mothers until I got a hold of an old map and the redistricting of counties. Just like the Gullett's in Maryland and Delaware.

Gullatt was originally Gullett, spelling was changed by court clerk in settlement of John Jr Gullett/Gullatt's estate 1753-1755 Cecil Co. MD. John Jr b. 20 Apr 1711 St. Stephens Parish d. Aug 1753 St. Stephens Parish Cecil Co. MD m. Mary, children Mary, Anne, Peter, John III.

His father was John Gullett Sr b. ca 1685 MD d. ca 1740? Cecil Co. m. Sarah, children John Jr and Mary. John Gullett Sr first appears in 04 Nov 1704 Cecil Co. MD court document requesting the court grant him freedom from an Indenture to Wm. Smith as he had served him 4 years and been free for 1 year, the court granted the request.

Have not been able to make a connection to William Gullett and Susannah Mills of Somerset Co. MD. John Gullett maybe either a son that was not recorded in church records or a nephew or ???.

John Jr's oldest son Peter b.17 Jun 1740 St. Stephens Parish Cecil Co. MD d. 1784 Fairfax Co. VA m. Rachael Thrift is my line thru their son John who m. Catherine Mitchell 1795 Loudoun Co. VA.

You can find it spelled all kinds of ways in Cecil Co. records, Gullet, Gullett, Golat, Golet, Gullat. Peter Gullatt in an Indenture with George Washington in 1770 signed as Peter Gollatt.
