I am pretty much the family historian as far as the Ticondroga New York branch of the Pell Family is concerned. I'd be happy to help ou in your query, Ms. Ludwig, but need a little bit more info from you since there are several Mary Pells you could be descended from.

I was wondering if you might have any info on
stephen H. pell. My mother often spoke of him and said many times that she was given
his name because he was the best friend of my grandfather Horace Porter the son of the
Secretary of war during the civil war.
My mothers birth certificate has her name as
Dorothy Suzanne Pell Porter. I was wondering
if any of these names sound even remotely
familiar. I would appreciate any info you might have on anyone mentioned above
Again I thank you

I can indeed give you a lot of info regarding Stephen Hyatt Pelham Pell, as he was my grea-grandfather. Born in Flushing (now a part of the borough of Queens, City of New York), his great life's work became the reconstruction of Fort Ticonderoga starting in 1909, after having bought out all his cousins who ad equal shares in the property the riuns lay on, originally purchased by William Ferris Pell in 1816/1820. SHP Pell married Sarah Gibbs Thompsom, the only child and daughter of Col. Robert Means Thompson (industrailaist and founder of the American Nickel Corporation and Atchison, Topeka The Sant Fe Railroad, benefactor of the US Naval Academy and responsible for its removal from Newport, Rhode Island to Annapolis, Maryland, and Chairman od the US Committe of the Olympic Games in the mid-20s, among other significant accomplishments), and his wife Sarah Gibbs, daughter of Governor George Gibbs of Rhode Island, and a great heiressin her own right.

I have albums of pictures from the turn-of-the-century (many of which I will be using in a forthcoming book) that include pictiues of Horace Porter. Interestingly, one of Stephen Pell's brothers was named Horace Porter Pell, who must have shocked this very established family by becoming an actor and who committed suicide around 1906.

I have always wondered about the connection to Horace Porter and would look forward to exchanging much, much more info with you about the subject.

Mr. Pell, I hope you don't mind but I could use the help of a Historian. I have a Rosa Cook Pell Hodge in my tree. I believe her sister (pos. Molly?) was also married to a Pell. Rosa Cook Pell was married to Robet Hodge abt 1805 in Norway NY. Can you make anything of this? Thanks for any help - Thomas

Know of the Pell family well as I grew up in Pelham Manor. My family arrived in Westchester in early 1700's. Their name was McClellan and one of them married a Pell, possibly named Fannie, which could be a nickname. I have four relatives named Pelham McClellan. Do you have any clue who Fannie may have been, born in mid-1700's I would think. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

Edwin W. Pell, my grandfather lived Ky. later in Mi. His cousin Rose Pell-Henderson was Lewisport, Ky. towns historian. She had many records. Which I've no idea what's happened to them since she passed last year. My family's always spoke of the Pells of New York on through to England. There are a few Pell Books in existance. Although I'm not fortunate to have one. Please contact me with any information on the Pells, it would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks Wyatt

I have seen your message posted to the Pell Board on rootsweb, and I wonder if you can give me any information on Mary Pell who was married to Samuel Sands? Was she the 8th child of Thomas Pell of Pelham Manor? dates of birth, marriage, death? names of parents? Thank you very much for your help. Beverley
