There is a Britton's Ferry in SC. My ancestor, Thomas Goddard Britton lived there and married Ann Durant before 1806. Their daughter sara Grier Britton married her cousin Benjamin Britton Arpil 19 1827 in Britton's Ferry, SC. After 1838, she remarried to a David Wilson.

The BrittonBritton union produced, among others, Ann Durant Britton who around 1852 married James Franklin Carraway, 1826-1902 Civil War soldier, they lived in the Williamsburg Dist. SC. The next generation of Carraway's moved to north Florida. I'd like confirmation on some of this information which I have put together with old copies of family Bible pages. Ann Bert Reuter

Hi. I wonder if you could tell me exactly where Britton's ferry is? I have seen it on a map before, I think in the Mill's atlas of SC. This is the same area known as Britton's neck, right? I'm from the francis britton, Sr. line through his daughter Mary married to William Bellah/Bollough. Thanks
Jeanne

I am looking for the Brittons that settled in S.C. From S.C. they built railroads and settled in AL. They built the first railroad in Gadsden AL and built the first road to Chickamauga on lookout Mtn. I believe his name may have been Robert Hall Britton. I would like more information on him. I believe he had six brothers that may have settled in parts of TN GA. I would like more information on his ancestors that were from SC and which country they came from.

Jeanne...Britton's Ferry is located near Kingstree, SC off of Indiantown Road near an area known as Popular Hill. It crosses the Great Pee Dee River where Lynch's Creek joins, just south of Snow Island and Goat Island. The Baxter plantation was located in Popular Hill next to the Britton plantation.

Britton's Neck and Britton"s Ferry

Mr. Baxter- I went up to the area now called Britton's Neck. Not much there. I did see the Historical Marker that told about the Britton family, and met the people who live across the street from it and heard their story about when the marker was erected. I then took a dirt road 14 miles long(that took me well over an hour to get down), that passed through Hunting clubs, by old delapidated log cabins, and which ended up at the river. From my map searching, this was at the point of the peninsula between the Great Pee Dee and the Little Pee Dee rivers; Is this the place you are talking about? This is what I thought was the right place-the "Neck". I am doing Britton research in South Carolina. Please email me privately for further discussion
about this family. Thanks so much

I've been working on this line as sort of a tribute to a long deceased old friend who thought he "had no family". This was
primarily because the Britton family did not acknowledge his existence due to the fact that his father divorced his 1st wife, a long ugly story but if my friend was still alive now he'd get a kick out of this...

Here's what I've got, though it is far from complete-- I'd really like to find out who the first wife and children (I assume there are some) of the James Peter Britton b 1910 d 1949 were...
Too bad this man didn't live to see the birth of his son...he really missed a character!

I discovered your message posted in 2003 concerning the decendents of Francis Britton. Thomas Nelson Britton born 10 May 1812 and Rebecca Ervin Gordon had a daughter named Agnes Frazier Britton. She is my g-grandmother. She married Thomas Miller McConnell. His father was William Scott McConnell and mother was Mary Laura Blakely, both are buried at Indiantown Presbyterian Church in Indiantown, SC. Do you have more information on this family. I am particularly interested in your comments about"a long deceased old friend who thought he 'had no family.'" Believe me he had a very large family.
