Surnames: Score, Skaarvold
Is there anyone out there researching Score surname from Norway?

My family took the surname Score upon arrival in U.S. after the name of the farm they had lived on in Norway: Skålvoll/Skaarvold. [aa sounds like long O] The farm was located near Støren - an hour south of Trondheim. However, some from the farm took a patronymic name (like Erickson or Rasmussen) or from one of the sub-farms (like Tangen).

This Score line settled in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Dakotas, Washington state and Canada.

I have lots of info on the Norwegians from Støren and Soknedal areas of Norway and would be happy to share.

Hilsen, Linda

Dennis,
Yes, this is one of the families I am researching. I have a record that Sigrid Alice Reyerson married Eddie A. Skaarvold in Richland Co, ND. This is one of the few families that maintained the Norwegian spelling of their name.
Would appreciate any information you have.
Thanks,
Linda

Hi Linda,
My fathers sister Theresa Elfreda Reyerson married Arnold Smaagaard (spelling?) I have quite a lot on the Reyerson/Reiersen's up to my father and his siblings. Some info after them.
I have no pictures of my ancestors and would very much like to obtain some.
I will send you a direct e-mail to arrange an exchange of information. It appears we are distant counsins.
An ISKAARVOLD@HOTMAIL.COM relyed to one of my post but his e-mail address is wrong????
Dennis

My great grandparents were Scores from Norway and settled in Camrose, AB. Ole and Ovedia were their given names. I know they were born in Norway as I've heard stories of Ole "falling off his fishing boat". Would this be the same family? I have no other info but would like to learn more.

Hello cousin Lindsey!

Ole Johansen Score, b. 28 Dec 1901 at Aune farm in Støren, Norway married "Oyedie Margot Hulsund" in 1927 in Norway (probably at Melhus).
His parents were: Johan Johannesen Kiland Skaarvold, b. 1 Aug 1879 at Skaarvold farm in Støren, Norway and Kari Iversdatter Aune, b. 10 Feb 1877 at Aune farm in Støren. Johan (became John Score) emigrated to Menomonie, Wis in 1901. Kari and son Ole emigrated to Menomonie in 1906. It appeared Kari did not leave Norway until her mother died in 1906 -- perhaps the reason for keeping her there so long after Johan left.
Ole's sister Mattilde was born in 1908 in Menomonie -- as was his brother Iver in 1912. They came to Menomonie because that's where Johan's uncle (my great grandfather) Mens Arntsen Skaarvold, had settled.
In 1913 the family returned to Norway -- probably because Kari's father was not well. Her father died in 1914. But they were unable to return to the U.S. because of WWI and so bought a farm in Melhus and lived there until 1928 when the whole family emigrated to Camrose, AB.
I have many generations of ancestors I can share with you --- and perhaps you have information about the descendants of Ole to help fill in my records.
