It shall be noted that in Galway the Darcy family was one of the successful family in that town. The Darcy Castle stood amoung a few fine homes during the peak of Galway's economy. Many influences came to the town from a booming trade business throughtout Eroupe.

Hi,

I have been looking for parents of my ancestor, Mary Darcy, born abt. 1789 in Granard, Longford, Ireland. Believe she had a sister, Elizabeth. Do you have any links with either of them? Mary married lst John Roberts, then Robert Pugh. Her sister married a Stephens, but may have married more than once. Please advise. Norma Whitecar

Hi Sean,
Saw your 2000 entry. My ancestors came from co Tipperary 1848. I believe that the family was in that county for the previous 50 years +.
Your ancestors are from Galway, is that correct?

I was wondering if you have ever had a DNA check and/or willing to take part. A Family Tree DNA group is attempting to find out if all Darcy's/D'Arcy's/Darceys/Dorceys/ etc.. are connected or have a common ancestor. I had one done a couple of years back. The group is looking for a volunteer -male Darcy descendant from Galway Darcy's to take part. Do you know of a Darcy who could participate?
Cheers

Hi there,

I can talk to my brother about a test, our last name is spelled "Darcey" and we may have origin in the county cork area, my sis and I have been trying to confirm that for quite a while. I did a trip to Wicklow a few years back and found a lot of Darcey graves with multiple spellings on the family's gravestones there. We believe our great-grandfather came over around 1875-ish, with a couple sisters.
Sincerely,
Melanie (Darcey) Shaw

Melanie, it seems that there have been many spellings - D'Arcy, Darcey, Darsey, Dorsey, and even Dawsey. It would be interesting to see what the results of your brother's DNA test would be. Both of my brothers did the DNA test; and, thank goodness, their markers were the same!!!

My DArseys were in the Augusta area of Georgia at least by 1790.
