Any information on a large Coughlin Family that settled in Bureau or LaSalle, Illinois around 1854. Several members came and went from the area until about 1917. James L. Coughlin married Mary O'Donnell from Ireland, they had these 7 children: John George, Harry, Frank, Mae (Mary), Martin, James L. and Alfred. Also, James L. Coughlin's father was born in Mass. I lose track of them at this point. Any info. email me at rwhite2406@aol.com

We must have a connection! Although I think our relatives may have been cousins. I have some conflicting info. 1900 census (Bureau CO., IL) showing James L. Coughlin, head of house, listing his father's place of birth as Ireland. However, in the 1920 census he lists MASS. Either way, we certainly are related and I would be thrilled to get your information. I live in North Carolina and won't be able to travel to IL. Can't wait to hear back from you!

Stephanie, I saw your posting for Coughlins in LaSalle Co. I've been trying to find the family of Frank Coughlin b Sep 1867 who married Ellen Noonan (b 17 Jan 1870 Ottawa). They married abt 1892, probably in the Sacred Heart Church in Kinsman, Grundy Co, but lived in LaSalle Co, I believe, about 1900. Have had no luck finding them yet on census. They moved around from IL to IA to MN. Ellen died in Estherville IA bet 1909 and 1932 (???) and Frank was still alive when she died. Don't know if they are buried together. The grave stone in Estherville only gives the name "Coughlin." Is there a chance Frank might belong to your Coughlins?
Any info greatly appreciated.

Dear Stephani,
You mention a Kinnegar in your family tree. My husband's grandmother, Kittie L. Kinnegar was married in LaSalle county to Andrew D. Douglas 31 Oct 1894. If you find any more information on her in your searching it would be wonderful to hear. wish I could get to the library in Ottawa but that is a bit difficult as I live in Las Vegas, Nevada.
I do know that sometime after their wedding they moved to Chicago. Was just nice to see another Kinnegar, first one I have found in all my searching.
Thank you,
Kat

I am researching my COUGHLIN & KELLY family in Chicago. One thing I continue to fing in obit searches..a connection to LaSalle family members. I have many obits.. I can't seem to put this group together. I start with Peter Coughlin & Elizabeth Cook b. 1835 Ire & 1837 Ire. First b. Alice (Allie) b. 1850 in Chicago. James b. 1863-64 Chicago. Andrew b. 1867 Chicago. James married Katherine Kelly b. 1867 Chicago in 1887. First b. my ggrandfather JAMES ELLSWORTH COUGHLIN b. 1888 in Chicago. I have everything after James Ellsworth...but confusion before. I have obtained the civil war records of Peter Coughlin & wife Ellen from LaSalle..if someone would like them. Multiple pages with ages of children and births etc. Today I see a link in the naming of this family after the 12 Disciples of Jesus ??
Sincerely,
Patty Reilly
