I am looking for any information on an Alexander Laverty who went to Michigan from NewYork and back. He once owned land in Michigan during the 1820's and may have been a land surveyor and discovered Jackson. Please help.

Alexander was in Dexter Michigan about 1830 - he married nancy Newton from New York and they had at least one daughter Sarah who married benjamin Stewart in Jackson Mi and then settled in Eton county. He is mention in the Jackson history as being the first to come to that city as a land surveyor. He is my great great great grandfather. I know the line from sarah and I know about his wife but nothing more ab out alexander.

My family records have an Alexander Laverty born in Salem, Mass. on 3 Jul, 1792 who married a Nancy Newton also from Salem, Mass. They had a son named Anson Alonzo born in Jackson County, Missouri. You mention both Alexander and Nancy as being from New York. I don't have any sources, just what my parents told me. Do you have any records stating their being from New York?

Thanks,
