Hi Lynn,
My Great Grandfather was John P. Brennan. He was born May 4, 1854 at Chatham New Brunswick, Canada. His parents were John Brennan and Johanna Aylward (possibly Bridget Elsworth). These people came over from the Alberton or Tignish area of PEI in the 1840's and went back to PEI in the Mid 1850's. I have more if this sounds familar. Thanks.
Best Wishes
Gerald Brennan

I notice you're a Martin. My maternal great-grandmother was an Elward who married a Martin. I don't know their first names offhand. I would guess this would be in the 1890's more or less. My grandmother was Ida Martin who married Arthur Howard. She came from a large family. Sisters were Helen, Ev, Dolly, Annie. There was a brother or two, also. I haven't done a search yet, but I'd like to sort everyone out. I think they were from the Rexton area.
Thanks,
Regina

Hi Regina,
My husband's Martin family came from England in the 1920's and they have no connection with New Brunswick. If you can discover your great- grandmother's first name, I would be happy to look through my Elward records to see if I can find a match.

Thanks so much, Lynn.

My great-grandmother was Elizabeth Elward, and married John Martin. Elizabeth's father was one of two brothers who came from England (as family lore goes, anyway). Apparently, they never worked, but lived on a family pension of some sort. Elizabeth's mother was Irish, possibly also named Elizabeth. The other brother is thought to have married someone named Gould.

I hope this resonates with you. In any case, thanks so much for your help.
Regina

If you're looking for information on the Aylwards/Elwards, look for a site called PEI lineages. It gives three generations of the family.

My wife's grandparents were Elizabeth Elward and John
Martin from Rexton thus making Ida Martin and Arthur
Howard her aunt & uncle. Have some info available to
you if interested
