I have traced back my grandfathers family, in Goose creek, to 1792, the Rev. West Williams. I think his fathers name was Stephen Williams but no birth date and nothing before that. Does anyone have more info., documents, or articles on this family? Maybe how I can find out where they migrated from or what writings would help me find out more? West Williams was married to Billie West and I believe those families were particularly close. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Lydia,
Thanks for the reply. Your Mellard line would be from William Owens Mellard and Mary Shingler. My mother's Mellard line would be from his fathers brother, Willaim.

Can you tell me what the relationship was between Thomas and Mary Harry and the Rev. Steven Williams?

Regards, Robert

Hello Robert,

I'm not sure about the Harry family, Thomas and Mary, but there are numerous articles I've found about the early families of St. James Goose Creek. All of the articles have come from J. Russell Cross's book " Historic Ramblin's through Berkeley " My Aunt has just ordered 2 copies through the Berkeley County historical society. Are you in SC? If I find any articles with Thomas and Mary Harry I will let you know. The 2 Stephen Williams in my family, one was the father of Rev. West Williams and the other was the brother of Rev. West Williams. I believe the brother Stephen was a Rev. also, not sure about the father, but for some reason I'm thinking he was a Rev. too. Thanks for the info. on the Mellards. Are the Harry's orianaly from England?

Robert,

Thomas and Mary Harry's daughter, Elizabeth married the Rev. Stephen Williams. I just found that for you in one of the articles from "Historic Ramblin's through Berkeley"

Elizabeth Barbara Mellard later married James Benjamin Wiggins (she was his 2nd wife) and is buried at Spring Hill Methodist Church in Sandridge. A picture of her grave is available on Find a Grave.
I am descended from James Benjamin Wiggins and his first wife, Elizabeth Ann Earnest.

Dear Cousins:

Col. William (Owens) Mellard and Mary Elizabeth Shingler were gr. gr. gr. grandparents of mine, through the marriage of their daughter Mary Ann Frances Mellard (sister of Elizabeth Barbara Mellard, who married William McKendree Williams) and Lewis Ervin Connor (both buried in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston). I know that William was adopted by Elisha Mellard; was Celia Susan Harry Mellard William's natural mother? Was she married at one time to an Owens (Owins), who might have been William's natural father? Does anyone know from which Owenses (Owinses) we descend?

Sincerely,
Bill Fuller in Texas
