Sarah Ann Ashby is my great-great aunt through her sister Jane Isabella Ashby McCulloch. What are you looking for with this family?

Thank you for replying, Robert. Someone who travels gifted me with a beautiful commemorated-type shirt such as one might find in a museum shop with Sarah Ann's photo on it; since I am very interested in Texas I hoped to learn more about this about this lovely lady who is apparently a well-known figure connected to Gonzales, Texas. Would you mind sharing?

The best seller novel "TRUE WOMEN" by JANICE WOODS WINDLE is centered around this family. Use your search engine to search for "True Women" or go to <www.seguin.net>.The "Handbook Of Texas Online" should give something too.Another site is "Sons Of Dewitt Colony Texas".My grandmother was raised by SARAH ANN ASHBY MCCLURE'S sister- EUPHEMIA TEXAS DAVIS ASHBY.By all means search these sites. Fascinating! I think that there is a "True Women" site tour sponsored by the Seguin Chamber Of Commerce.

I am interested in any information on Sarah Ann Ashby's second husband, Charles Braches. He emigrated from Prussia in 1834, lived first in Missouri before leaving for Vicksburg and then Texas. I am doing historical research on members of the Solingen Emigration Society of which he was a member. Any letters, diaries, or information on his emigration or his later life would be appreciated.

How did you fair on info on Sarah Ashby? she is my adopted sister's ggg aunt thru her sister Mary Harris Ashby. She flew to Tx in 1997 to go on the TRUE WOMEN tour as she use to live in Seguin Tx. Her cousin Janice Woods Windle wrote the book that became a mini series for Hallmark Hall of Fame.
Sarah led over 1000 women & children fleeing Santa Anna on the famous 'Runaway Scrape' and is considered a Dau of Tx. Mary Ashby was also on this flee giving medicinal aid to the sick women and children. The mansion of Sarah's at Peach Creek Gonzales Co has been restored & is really gorgeous admist the huge live oak trees. In front of the home is also a HUGE Live Oak called the Sam Houston Live Oak with a Historical Marker now for this is where Gen Houston met to decide the fate of San Jacinto. My sis has pictures of the women, the prettiest was Jane Isabella. If you'd like to chat with her, email me. thanks.
