I am looking for anyone who is related or recognizes the following Family. They migrated across Georgia before the Civil War and settled in Henry County, Alabama near the town of Abbeville. Rumor is that Joel J Dunn was born in the Carolinas but I have no evidence. My main focus is to try to find out more info on Joel J. Dunn, however I would also like to connect with his descendants and swap information along with seeing where everyone lined up. The following is a summary of Joel J Dunn’s descendants.

Joel J. Dunn b. about 1780 – d. after 1860. All the info I have on Joel is 2 census records. He is shown in the 1840 census in Jasper County GA. Census shows a woman old enough to be his wife in the household however 1840 only gives the name of the head of household. It shows the following; 2 males 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 60-69 (should be Joel J himself) 1 female 10-14, & 1 female 50-59 (which might be his wife). One of the males will be his son John Jonas Dunn who was born about 1830. The next record is the 1860 census (line 536). It shows him living next door to J. J. Dunn (John Jonus Dunn) and family in Cuthbert (Randolph County) GA. In this census he has a 45 year old female named Sallie living in the house with him. I am not sure who she is or how she is related. His son and family moved into Henry County Alabama between 1860 & 1862. I do not know what happens to Joel J. Dunn after 1860.

John Jonus Dunn is the son of the above Joel J Dunn. He was born in 1830 in Jasper County Georgia per his military records. The 1850 census shows him living with John M Beavers & family. He was employed as a stage coach driver. He married Elizabeth Ann Bowen in Morgan County GA on Dec 30, 1851. By 1860 he had moved to Randolph County GA, next door to his father. By April 19, 1862 he had moved to Henry County Alabama and He enlisted in the 37 Alabama Infantry Company E. Record shows was sent home 3 months later due to “Tumor on Left Hip, affecting his walking”. March 21, 1863 He joined the 57 Alabama Infantry, Company I. In February of 1864 the problem with his leg resurfaced and he was sent to the Army Hospital in Greenville, Alabama. He stayed in the hospital until April 26, 1864 when he was discharged due to the Tumor and ruled unfit for any further service due to health. The Alabama State Census of 1866 shows him living in Henry county. This is the last record I have on him. I believe he died between 1866 & 1870 from this tumor. The widows pension application shows he died within 5 years of the end of the war as well. Mrs. Elizabeth (Ella) Ann Bowen Dunn never remarried and died July 4th, 1898 at her home near Abbeville, Alabama
