Surnames: Stoddard, Stoddart
Does anyone have any information on What exactly the Salvation Army Rescue Home is?

My grandfather, Earl Stoddard (Stoddart), was borin in January 1909 and he was an orphan. I tried to find Earl Stoddards in the 1910 census in the Buffalo area and came across one at this Salvation Army Home and he was listed as being 18mos old and an "inmate". I also found listed there was a woman Nellie Stoddart who was 19 years old and also an "inmate". So was this a home for young, unwed girls to have their children?

If anyone has any info on the Salvation Army home and what they were about, Nellie or Earl please contact at me!

Thanks!
Karen

Yes it was for unwed mothers - started 1899 or 1900
at one time they were allowed to stay until age 3.

This home was located on the corner of Cottage & Maryland St., Buffalo,NY. My father was abandoned at the doorstep of this home in 1921. Was there for 3 years. This home was burned down in a fire. Contact me at dsnell@me.com for a photo of the home.

Hi karen,
I got a message from you through ancestry.com I no longer have a membership with them so I can't reply back to you.
I did not have any luck with Booth homes they told me they had no birth records their and my grandfathers information was lost.
From what I have been able to find out the mother never named the father .
