William Lovett Balfour's father was a William Balfour about 1770 and died about 1835. We have some info on Wiliam. Do you have any info on the folks that preceded William??

Surnames: Balfour, Gartley, Fitzgerald
John Balfour had a brother Louis Gartley Balfour who named two of his living sons Louis Gartley Balfour.

He first married Elizabeth Fitzgerald and had son Louis Gartley, Jr. born about 1869 in LA.
Next he married Lucy B. and had son Louis Gartley, born October 1878 in New Orleans, LA.

Both sons are listed with him on the 1880 census. The older one as "L. G." and the younger one as "Louie"

You obviously have a good deal of balfour information. William Lovett and elizabeth davis gartley were my g.g.grand parents. Their oldest child Mary Jane Balfour Blackman was my g. grandmother. I have lots of Balfour info but little computer knowledge.

Thanks for the new information. I didn't have Mary Jane. She must have married before the 1850 census. What was her husband's full name?

The children I have for William and Elizabeth Balfour:
William S., b. about 1828
John, b. about 1830
Charles, b. about 1834
James R., b. about 1838
Louis Gartley, b. January 1842
Horace, b. about 1845

Am I missing any others?

you are in for a suprise! go to issaquena genealogy and history project:the balfour family. mary jane married harace golding blackman. william lovett made them the guardians of his three youngest sons, joseph davis, lewis and horace. james was also under age at the time of william lovett's death. they all had tutors when they lived at homestead, or home place just outside of flora ms. when they went to ms city on the gulf coast the tutors went along. joseph and lewis studied in europe circa 1859. joseph continued his studies in england . i hyope this will give you a better picture of our ms. balfours :bill

I don't know if I responded to your old request about
William Lovett and Elizabeth Davis Gartley Balfour's
children. You missed the first child Mary Jane Balfour
Blackman. She and her husband Horace Blackman were made
guardians of William and Elizabeth Balfour's three
youngest children on William Lovett Balfour in 1857.
Those three were Joseph Davis Louis, and Horace.
