Ralph J. Whitcomb, 82, of Lawson Care Center, formerly of Bemus Point, died at 11;35 a.m. Saturday(January 7, 1989) in the Lawson Care Center. An area resident for most of his life, he was born January 29, 1907, in Salamanca, a son of Wallace and Maude Hall Whitcomb. Prior to retiring in 1965, Whitcomb was employed by Furniture Express Trucking. where he received many safe-driving awards, and by Watson Manufacturing Company of Jamewtown. He was a member of Teamsters Union 649. Surviving are his wife, Grace Patton Whitcomb, whom he married June21, 1928; a son, Royce Whitcomb of Ashtabula, Ohio; three daughters; Jean Olson of Jamestown, Nella Logan of Youngsville, Pa. and Ruth Braley of Ontario, Calif.; 12 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren and a step-sister, Lillian Graham of Celoron.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

PJ: 1/20/1998: Grace P. Whitcomb, 85, formerly of Bemus Point, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday (Jan. 19, 1998( in the Lawson Care Center.
An area resident most of her life, she was born March 3, 1912, in Pennsylvania, a daughter of George and Mary Keach Patton.
She had been employed for many years by the Donald Bemus family of Bemus Point. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and African Violet Club of Bemus Point. She always cooked and delivered food to those in need.
Surviving are a son, Royce Whitcomb of Ashtabula, Ohio; three daughters; Nella Logan of Youngsville, Jean Olson and Ruth Braley, both of Jamestown; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Whitcomb, whom she married June 21, 1928, and who died Jan. 7, 1989; 11 brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul H. Whitcomb, retired United Methodist pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
