WANTED
Information on the BRADDOCK family of Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

In the 1790 census we find:
Ralph Braddock in St Thomas, Cheraws District, SC (Chesterfield county was established in 1798, from Cheraws
District)
In 1800 can´t find him; 1810 in Darlington Co. SC; in 1820 in Chesterfield Co SC; Ralph Braddock disappears from SC census after 1820, either deceased or living with a child; his son John Braddock is near him in 1820 and is there in 1830.

Ralph Braddock is listed in some family and secondary records as Raff, Rafe, or Ralf, which may be a derivative of Raphael.

Family listed for Ralph (Raff / Ralf) Braddock (dates very uncertain):
[Ralph Braddock is found in 1790 census of SC - not yet found in 1800; both he and his wife are age 26-45 in 1810 and over age 45 in 1820]
Wife- Polly [could be Mary, with the nickname of Polly]
Children:
1] Susie Braddock, born abt 1794, md Elijah Barfield [she & her husband appear to be living next to her brother who lives next to their father in 1820 census... age 26-45, b 1775-1794; in 1810 she must be the daughter in age 16-26 bracket, or born 1784-1794]; name of spouse from family records.

2] Betsy Braddock b abt 1797 [no further info; have not found in census- fit her into father´s family in 1810 as age 10-16, born 1794-1800; so used family records birth year of abt 1797]

3] John Braddock, b Dec 1799, died abt 1871 - also in Chesterfield Co SC; md Polly Atkinson - he first appears separately in 1820 census living with his wife and 1 male child, next door to his father, listed in 16-26 age group [born 1794-1804]; fits into his father family in 1810 as male under age 10 [born 1800-1810] Dates and spouse are from family records.
[ancestor- thru their 3rd child William Thomas Braddock, 1827-1906, who md Mary Williams dau of Daniel Williams & Margaret Teal;-thru W.T´s dau Barbara Braddock 1865-1944 provided family information.]

4] Edward Braddock, b abt 1801 [age 61 in 1860, age 75 in 1880; in 1810 census one of 2 sons under age 10 years], md Martha Fisher [she age 35 in 1860; age 50 in 1880]. Name of spouse from family records and fits with census.

5] Jessie or Jansie Braddock, b. abt 1802/3 [age 48 in 1850 census - b 1802; age 57 in 1860 b 1803], md William Oliver Edwards [name of spouse from family records and fits with census.]

6] Dolly Braddock, born abt 1805, md Jack Cathlie or Catlett [what appears to be Dolly as widow in 1860 Dolly Catlett, age 55 [b abt 1805] Name of spouse as Jack Cathliefrom family records.

7] Catherine or Kate Braddock, b abt 1816 [age 34 in 1850; age 45 in 1860 but sometimes listed as older or younger in various records-often b.
abt 1796 or abt 1823], md Jordan Edwards [age 45 in 1850, age 50 in 1860-1860 says Catherine could read and write but he could not]; [ancestor thru dau Scerena or Sorena Edwards [age 9 in 1850; she was not yet born when 1810 census was taken, and in 1820 her father has 2 daughters under age 10 years [born 1810-1820] and 3 daughters age 16-26 [born 1794-1804] Kate md Bookie Gandy Tolson b 1837, son of John Tolson and Annie Gandy] Name of spouse from family records, and fits with census.

Sources include family records [based on memory of Barbara Braddock Dixon, 1862-1944 recorded in her lifetime], and census records; census all list father Ralph Braddock rather than Raff; www.familysearch.org in Ancestral File and IGI (list him as Raff Braddock); RootsWeb at PeopleConnect, etc.
census dates have been used; these are not always reliable, butneither are family memories of grandchildren-though very important on relationships when they were raised in the area - as in this case.
This chronological arrangement of children is based on a careful study of the census records, and is different from the family records in age estimates and order of birth.

Ralph [Raff] Braddock has an estimated birth date of abt 1764 [source unknown but apparently based somewhat on the early census records]; he is said to be son of Edward and Polly Braddock.

Some records associate him as son or grandson of General Edward Braddock (1695-1755) who came to the Virginia in Feb 1755 to command the British troops in assisting Colonists against the French and Indians, & was killed in PA in July 1755. That Edward Braddock was born abt 1695 in the county of Perth, Scotland, son of another General Edward Braddock (who died about 1725). Since both generations of these Edward Braddock´s were soldiers, it is difficult to know where their children may have been born.

One secondary listing has three sons for Edward Braddock (1695-1755) as Raphael, John, and Francis. But no documentation, and some info known to be wrong -so all suspect. [But Raff could be derived from Raphael- though seems more apt to be a grandson of this generation]

Has anyone done research on the BRADDOCK family of Chesterfield County area, South Carolina, who has some answers? Will exchange info.
