Joyce E. Brown, 70, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died suddenly on Friday, January 13, 2006, at her home in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, January 18, 2006, from the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Joyce E. Hammond was born on June 21, 1935 in Jackson County, Iowa, to Donald Hammond and Irma M. (Petersen) Hammond. She was a Miles, Iowa High School graduate. She married Dale A. Brown on January 31, 1954 in Miles, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1976.

Joyce had worked the majority of her working years in the food service industry. She most notably had worked at the Crestridge Nursing Home and Dolch's Bakery, both in Maquoketa. She currently was working part-time at WALMART in Maquoketa.

Joyce was an active and faithful member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa and its Altar Guild. She also had been a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer for several years.

Joyce enjoyed sewing, flowers, working on puzzles and gardening. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden. Her family and her church family were especially important to her.

Joyce is survived by: children- Guy(Colleen) Brown of Dallas, TX, Lorna Barlow of Arvada, CO, Jeff Brown of Maquoketa, IA, Julie Brown(& husband Mark Lippens) of Maquoketa, IA, & Mitch(Melanie) Brown of Marion, IN; & 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 daughter, & 5 brothers.

A Joyce E. Brown Memorial Fund has been established.
