Clara Mae Snyder "Dutch" Fitts, 86, died July 1, 2006 after a valiant, twenty-five year struggle with breast cancer at her home in Hood River, Oregon. After graduating from Connellsville High School, she pursued a nursing degree at the Jefferson Medical College Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On February 22, 1943 she volunteered for the Navy Nurse Corps and served in the Pacific Theater. Upon her husband's retirement from active duty in 1977, she spent a brief period of time in El Paso, Texas, before settling in Austin, Texas in 1978, where she resided until 2005,when she relocated to her present home in Hood River, Oregon.
